EAP, ELM/EPT, & Early Start:
Students who took part in the Early Assessment Program (EAP) should have received a STAR Test Report in August of the
senior year informing them of their EAP status. Listed below are the EAP statuses and a brief overview of their meaning.
More detailed information can be obtained by checking your status on the www.csumentor website.
Ready for CSU
The student’s score met the ELM/EPT requirement.
Ready for CSU - Conditional
The student demonstrated readiness for CSU math/English at this point. He/she will need to continue to take math
(Algebra II or higher) or CP English coursework to be ready for the CSU. Exempt from taking the ELM/EPT if courses
are passed with a C or higher. Student may be recommended to take the ELM/EPT to be safe.
Not yet demonstrating readiness for CSU
The student’s score did not meet the ELM/EPT Requirement so he/she must find another way to become ready for
the CSU. Student must take ELM/EPT or can use additional test data (SAT/ACT/AP scores) to meet requirements.
Early Start is required for incoming students who have not fulfilled the Entry Level Math and/or English Placement Test
proficiency requirements.
-The program takes place the summer before the freshman year.
-Upon admission, CSU campuses will inform students how and where to sign up for Early Start.
-Early Start math and English courses will be available at every CSU campus, at a few community colleges, and online.
-Financial aid will be available for those who demonstrate need.

1.
2.
3.
Complete 15 UC-required college-preparatory ("a-g") courses, with 11 of
those done prior to the start of 12th grade
Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better (weighted by honors/AP bonus points) in
these courses
Take the ACT With Writing or SAT Reasoning Test
Students' qualifications will be assessed using campus-based review
processes,
which emphasize academic achievement but also account for a wide range
of
personal accomplishments and educational contexts.
NOTE: Two SAT Subject Tests will no longer be required for
admission. However, students can still choose to submit their scores for
consideration as part of their application, just as they do now with AP and IB
scores. The Subject Tests may also be recommended for certain majors.
Who receives guaranteed admission
to the UC’s?
 Within this pool of applicants, two categories of students will be
guaranteed admission somewhere in the UC system:
1. those who fall in the top 9 percent of all high school graduates
statewide
2. those who rank in the top 9 percent of their own high school
graduating class
 Because selectivity varies by campus due to the size and academic
quality of applicant pools, a student's chance for admission will also
vary by campus. For this reason, it is important for students to
review all of their options and choose both carefully and broadly.
 Students will be notified, directly on the online application, once
they enter their academic profile, if they qualify in the top 9%
www.universityofcalifornia.edu
UC application Fee Waivers:
 UC will waive application fees for up to four campuses for
qualified students who would otherwise be unable to apply for
admission. The fee waiver program is for United States citizens
and permanent residents only.
 Students who qualify for fee waivers and who select more than
four campuses must pay $70 for each additional choice.
 Apply for a fee waiver
You can apply for a fee waiver within the online application
and be notified immediately whether you have qualified. You
will need to provide your family's income and the number of
people supported by that income.
