A User Guide
 If
you need a book that’s not available in our
library, GIL Express lets you request books
to be delivered to you from other schools in
the University System of Georgia (USG).
 Only
books can be requested via GIL
Express.
 Through
GIL Express, USG
students, faculty, and staff have
access to approximately 9 million
books from 36 schools.
 Go
to the Library
Homepage at:
www.library.gcsu.edu
 Click
on “My Library
Accounts” in the
lower right corner of
the screen.
 Select “My
GIL
Account”.
 Your
online GIL
Account allows you to
keep track of all
items you have
checked out from
Georgia College and
other USG schools.
 Establish
a PIN
• From the drop-down
menu, select which
number you will enter:
 Barcode: found on the
back of your Bobcat card
 Institution ID: 911 #
• Enter your last name
• At the bottom of the
screen, select “Get my
PIN”
A
temporary PIN will be sent to your student
email.
• If email does not arrive, check Junk Mail.
 Once
temporary PIN is retrieved, return to
login page and enter all information, including
new PIN.
 Once
you are logged in, you will be able
change your PIN to something you can
remember.
 Look
for the item in the Georgia College
catalog first.
Either here
Or Here
If you have an exact title or the name of an author, click
“Exact Search”.
If you are conducting research on a topic but do not have a specific
item you are looking for, you can contact the Reference Desk for
research assistance: (478) 445-0979, or you can visit them on the 2nd
floor of the Library.

 If
item is not in our
collection, you can
search the GIL
Universal Catalog.
Important
 If you use GIL
Express to request a
book that is available
in our library, your
request will fail.
Although listed in the catalog, this item
cannot be requested via GIL Express.
Only books can be requested.
Notice that this item is owned by multiple libraries.
Select this item to view the item record.
Click “GIL Express Request” to request this item.
Notice that this item is owned by 3
libraries, and that none of them are
checked out; this means that these
items are currently available.
Select your school: Georgia College and State University
Enter either your Barcode or your Institution ID
Enter your PIN
Enter your last name
Click “Ok”
On this form,
enter the
number you
used to log
in.
Then select
the library
where you
want the item
delivered.
 The
request form defaults to your home
institution as the Pick-Up location
 You
may want to change the pick-up
location:
• If you live closer to another USG school. For example,
if you are a GC graduate student at the Macon
campus, you may want to designate Macon State
College as your pick-up location.
• If you will be closer to another USG school during
the time the item will be delivered.
 The
item is available at the Georgia
College Library.
 The
item requested is not a book, or it is
an electronic book.
 The
item requested cannot be checked
out. For example, Reference items, items
on Reserve, Special Collections, etc…
If the request is
successful, click on
“My Account”.
Your online account
will look something
like this.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen to see “Requests Pending”.
At the far right, you can monitor the status of your request.
 GIL
Express requests usually take from 3-7
days to arrive.
 The
check-out period is 28 days.
 You
can renew items using your online
account.
• 2 Renewals per item.
• Renew no later than the day before the due date.
• If an item is recalled by its owning institution, it must
be returned.
 As
soon as a GIL Express item is overdue,
your library account will be blocked.
 You
can have up to 100 GIL Express
books checked out at one time.
 You
can walk into any USG library and
check out books with either your Bobcat
card or your Driver’s License.
 There
are no overdue fines associated with
GIL Express.
 If
an item is more than 28 days overdue, the
system will assume it is lost, and your
account may show a replacement fee.
 As
long as the “lost” item is returned, the
replacement fee will be forgiven, but you
may be required to pay a processing fee.
 If
an item is recalled by its owning
institution, that item must be returned
immediately.
 If
this item is not returned immediately,
you will be charged a daily fee until it is
returned.
