“Our students are not required to complete and
internship but are offered the possibility as an elective”

When are internships conducted?
Most conducted during summer
Few are during:
Semesters Fall & Spring
Quarters – all 4
Requirements and skill level
Schools prefer that students be juniors or seniors
GPA- 2 require a 2.5 GPA, 1- requires a 2.2 GPA
Need to develop knowledge and skills in classes such as:
Merchandising math, pattern drafting and grading,
garment construction, basic computer skills, textiles,
textile testing, trend forecasting, specification writing,
technical drawing, CAD, illustrator, photoshop, excel
“must have new learning objectives, cannot just do an
internship for the job they are currently working at”
Course Credit & Hours
Paid or unpaid
All students receive course credit
varies from 3 to 6
Clock hours more than 150
Students can take paid and unpaid positions
Other benefits: travel, housing, etc.
Internship Pre-preparation

Researching specific companies
Taking field trips to industry sites
Interacting with industry experts
through symposia and class lectures
