Catawba’s Campus Facelift Catawba’s campus has undergone a facelift and it is time to tell students about it! Corriher-Linn-Black Library The building attempts to wed the charm and eloquence of an earlier era with the sophistication and comfort of the present. The main level features a large reading room, information commons and a state-ofthe-art instruction room with projection capabilities and 33 computers. The mezzanine offers soft seating and an array of attractive study rooms. Collections are mostly housed in the lower level. Abernethy Village Abernethy Village consists of five new residence halls constructed in 2007 designed to accommodate up to 126 upper class students. Each of the residence halls is three-stories tall with a brick facade. Two of the five halls feature suite-style living spaces which share common study areas on the second and third floors, as well as two kitchens to be shared by residents on all three floors. Three of the buildings feature apartment-style living spaces and have a kitchen per apartment. A courtyard of brick pavers, common landscaping and walkways between all the buildings tie the halls together. The Student Center’s New Look Along with many other advances on campus, the Student Center has gone through an entire facelift as well. Students now have a newly renovated office of Student Affairs where they can be assisted with all of their residence life needs. Dining options on campus have also been increased and improved. Although students still have a cafeteria option, two new restaurant style options have been added. Students can now lounge on new spacious and comfortable furniture or enjoy new games in a newly renovated game room. All of their Catawba College apparel and books can now be purchased in an entirely new bookstore on campus. Come to Campus Come to Catawba One of the best ways to learn about Catawba College is to visit campus during an Open House, a day of "Getting to Know Catawba." On these special days, prospective students and their families have the opportunity to tour campus and talk with faculty, students, and admissions counselors. If students are unable to attend an Open House, they can schedule a private visit any day Monday through Friday. You are quite possibly the only representative from Catawba College a student or parent will ever meet. Typically the attire is business to nice business casual. Men will be in anything from suits and ties to nice dress shirts and nice slacks. Women will be in anything from suits to a nice top and slacks or a skirt. If you have any questions about that, please let us know. Please use Admissions Counselor, Lindsey Burch Griffin, (pictured on left) as a guide. College Fair Table Etiquette: While standing at a table during a college fair, please be sure to stand behind your table. It is not appropriate for you to try and encourage students to stop at your table by standing in front of your table. Wait to speak to a student or parent until they have shown interest in your table. Always be polite and friendly and answer any questions they may have to the best of your ability. Please do not ever speak negatively about another college or university. Wait to put away your table until all students have left your table and the fair has ended. When arriving to a fair please be sure to give yourself enough time to set up before the fair begins. Please keep all eating and drinking to a bare minimum while at your table. Please, no gum chewing. How to Set a Table: When setting a table at a fair, please be sure to always use a tablecloth. Please try and display all of the materials we have given you in an organized and visually stimulating way. Keep in mind that all materials on your table can be replenished as you run out during the fair. In other words, keep your table full but not too full! Please be sure to have extra inquiry cards as well as extra pens on hand. Therefore if you happen to run out of certain materials you can have a student fill out a card and we can send information to them. Pens will always be taken at fairs so just be prepared to need more than one or two. THANK YOU! …for all you do to make Great!
