Will my credits transfer if I do? How much will this cost per credit (and compare)? Can sometimes provide good opportunities to earn a good living in a fairly short time span. Continue with most rigorous academic program possible - 4 years English, math, science (bio, chem. physics), social studies and world language. Most selective schools want great grades in the most rigorous academic program available at the student’s school Your GPA matters ALL THE WAY TO THE END! If you change your courses after you apply to a college and you don’t check it out with a college, they may rescind your offer of acceptance. •14 •7/17/2015 Campus Visit Questions What are the admissions requirements? Average class size? Retention rate, graduation rate and career placement history of grads? Who teaches undergrad classes? Strongest departments/programs? Financial Aid- Avg. amount students receive, etc? Special programs, clubs, recreation facilities and services? Can •18 double chances of acceptance at certain colleges. Early Action - Early Deadline, Early Notification. Student doesn’t have to decide until regular admission date. Early Notification - Colleges who really want a student let them know early how likely it is that they will be accepted Regular Admissions - Considers all students who have their app.in by the deadline Priority Deadline – consider those applications in advance of regular admissions Rolling Admissions - Continuous acceptance of apps. until class fills •7/17/2015 Applications 6 colleges is plenty. We can suggest ways you could become more focused in your search… Apply On-line Provide at least two weeks prior to date application is due in the admissions office (ten working days) for counseling office and teachers to mail required forms. $2.00 per application. Common Application commonapp.org-be sure to check for supplements •19 •7/17/2015 the Application Students are responsible for making sure their applications are •20 complete. Staff will prepare transcripts ($2 each) and completed counselor forms for each application. South High staff will also track the date that each application has been prepared and mailed, whether electronically or via postal mail. Let us know that us you have submitted your application electronically or have mailed it. (Bring $2 for each for processing the official transcript) The counselor or other staff person will complete the staff portion. Transcripts and other necessary documents will be prepared. OUR PORTION of your application will be prepared and mailed (or sent electronically) with the dated noted on the Naviance/Family Connection site. •7/17/2015 Letters of Recommendation Letters will be written ONLY for those colleges that require them. Please double •21 check ALL requirements and due dates. If you do need a letter, please follow the steps below: 1. Naviance information Please complete the 2012 Counselor Recommendation Form (under About Me, Surveys, View all Surveys) on the Naviance site. Additionally, if you have a resume already done, you can post it to your documents section and your counselor can review this. To get logged on: http://connection.naviance.com/shsmn Be sure to keep your email CURRENT in Naviance all year… 2. Schedule an appointment Please reserve ½ hour with your counselor to review the Naviance information and have an interview. 3. Plan ahead and, please, be patient! Please allow 3 weeks for the letter to be completed. The letter will be mailed (usually electronically) with your application and a copy will be placed in your Naviance documents file for future use. •7/17/2015 College Athletics Students considering college athletics at the Division I or II level can obtain information on NCAA guidelines at http://www.ncaa.org/.
