What is the Foundation Stage?
• The foundation stage begins when
children reach the age of three and
children start to attend a nursery setting.
• The final year of the Foundation stage is
when children are in a Reception class of a
primary school.
• It prepares children for learning in their
future school career.

Recording Children’s Achievements
• Each child has their own Learning Story Book
that is used to track children’s progress and
achievements.
• The book contain observations, photographs
and examples of the children’s work.
• We encourage parents to contribute to the
files with their own observations.
How do I find out what my child is
learning about in Nursery?
• You will receive a weekly newsletter from us
that tells you what we will be learning about
each week in Nursery.
• We also have a ‘what we are learning about’
display in the front entrance.
• Talk to any member of the Nursery team!!

Dinner time
School Dinners
• Lunch is cooked on site and served in our dining hall (vegetarian
and Halal meals are catered for)
• Parents are asked to pay via Parent Pay whenever possible or to put
money in an envelope and post in the office post box each
Monday (cost will be £11.05 per week - £2.21 per day)
• Children are able to choose from a selection of healthy,
nutritional and well balanced lunches.
Packed lunches
• Lunches from home must be brought into school in a plastic
lunch box/ bag clearly labelled with the child’s name.
• In keeping with the healthy schools programme we recommend a
balanced lunch which contains fruit and vegetables
• No sweets or fizzy drinks please!
It is important that children only change from school dinners to
packed lunches or vice versa at the beginning of a half term. Any
changes must always be discussed with the office staff.

Uniform
• We encourage Nursery children to wear the school uniform
e.g. Red sweatshirt/cardigan, plain black or grey trousers/
skirt and a white polo shirt/T-shirt/blouse.
• Please ensure that names labels are in EVERYTHING!!!
• Send coats EVERYDAY
• Sensible shoes and no jewellery
• Please leave spare clothes and underwear in bag provided on
peg and check bag regularly.
• A pair of wellies are needed everyday as children go out in
all weathers.
Uniform
Attendance
• We expect all children to come everyday (and they
will want to!!).
• The Main Nursery door closes at 9:00am. If you
arrive after this time you must go to the school
office to inform the staff that your child is in
Nursery and get a late card.
• You must inform us if your child is going to be
absent from Nursery for any reason e.g. Sickness,
Medical appointments by ringing the School office
before 9am on 0161 234 1020.
Picking your child up from Nursery
• You must inform us of all of the people who are
going to be picking your child up from Nursery.
• The Nursery staff will not let your child go with
someone they have not been introduced to before.
• Nursery finishes at 11.50am (part time children) or
3:10pm (full time children) and we would
appreciate it if you could arrive on time. If you are
going to be late for any reason please telephone the
office so that they can inform us.
• Please see your individual Nursery contract
regarding late charges.
Keeping Safe
• Keeping the children safe in Nursery is our
main priority.
• Can we kindly ask that whenever you are
leaving the Nursery, that you ensure the
main doors are always closed properly.
• Remember to always inform us if someone
new is going to pick up your child from
Nursery.
Nursery Fund
• We run a snack table throughout the day in
Nursery where we provide the children with a
range of healthy snacks. To continue to do this
we ask for every child to bring £1 each Monday
or you can pay termly.
• We also use Nursery fund towards the cost of
baking and playdough ingredients.
• We will provide you with a green envelope
every Monday morning, for you to return to
your child’s key worker.
Parent Groups and Workshops
• We have our own Parent Room in Nursery
that is used by parents/carers throughout the
week.
• Toddler group every Tuesday Morning 9:15 –
10:30am £1.00 per child
• We have weekly Parent Workshops running
throughout the year e.g. card making,
cookery, early literacy etc.
Breakfast and After School Club
• The school has a breakfast club that starts at 7:45am
and an afterschool club that runs up until 6:00pm
• The cost of this is £4:00 per morning session and
£7:00 per after school session.
• There is also Polkadots music sessions for Nursery
children after school on a Monday and Thursday,
Pyjama Drama on a Tuesday & Yogabugs on a
Wednesday. Please check the school website for
further details.
Before you leave us tonight…..
Please make sure:
- You have returned ALL the necessary
forms from your pack to us.
- Have arranged a time for your child to
visit us and an appointment time with
Mrs Powell (if you want to discuss
anything further).
