Great American Cities Program

Quick Facts:

3-4 trips per Academic year, planned during ASU breaks and holidays

Trips range between 4-6 days

15-20 students per trip, 1-2 Barrett staff

Need-based scholarships are available

Fees cover: airfare, lodging, transportation, and planned group activities.

Barrett staff handle ALL logistics and travel with the group

What we do

Guided city bike or bus tour, visits to local museums, passes to major attractions, group dinners, tickets to theatre or shows, and much more!

Sample Itinerary: Washington, D.C.

Day 1

Depart AZ, arrive DC (morning) Check in to hostel Bike the Sites: Lincoln, Jefferson, FDR, Washington, Vietnam, WWII, Group Dinner

Day 2

Tour of Arlington National Cemetery Visit the Holocaust Museum Explore various Smithsonian Museums

Day 3

Tour the Capitol Building and visit with Arizona Representative Lunch with Barrett Alumni Explore Georgetown

Day 4

Guided Tour of the Newseum Depart for Phoenix (evening)

The Barrett Trips are approximately $700-850

Scholarships

• “NEED BASED/LIMITED TRAVEL EXPERIENCE” Scholarships are available

*Need based = Students with a FAFSFA form on file *Limited travel experience = Students who have not travelled out of country, or many places out of their home state.

Scholarships cover ½ the cost of your trip!

2012-13 Travel Schedule

PORTLAND & SEATTLE

October 11 th -16 th (ASU Fall Break)

Spend two and a half days in Portland: enjoy a city bike tour, Portland Japanese Garden, Voodoo Donut Shop, Portlandia walking tour, and a river cruise in the Columbia Gorge. We’ll take the train to Seattle and spend three days in the Emerald City! Enjoy a Seattle Harbor cruise, guided city bus tour, monorail ticket, Space Needle observation deck, Experience Music Project, Seattle Aquarium, Science Fiction Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Pacific Science Center, Pike’s Place Market! NEW ORLEANS

January 2 nd -6 th (Week before Spring 13 semester)

Wander sprawling antebellum plantations, tour the city’s European origins, iconic battlegrounds, and historic jazz districts. City trolley tour, visit the French Quarter, take a cruise on a paddlewheel riverboat and a ride on the famous streetcar, and participate in a potential service project in the Ninth Ward. WASHINGTON, D.C.

March 11 th -16 th (Spring Break)

See the famous “Newseum”, enjoy a National Monuments and city bike tour, visit the Capitol Building, Arlington Cemetery, Holocaust Museum, National Museum of Natural History, National Museum of American History, and more! BOSTON

May 11 th -15 th (Spring Break)

Visit Harvard and MIT Campuses; enjoy a Trolley tour of Boston area and a Harbor Constitution Cruise; walk the Freedom Trail; visit the USS Constitution Museum, the New England Aquarium, Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Museum of Science, and Fenway Park
