Basics

• Windows 7 or Vista (English)
– Windows 7 “Professional” is the recommended
Desktop OS
– Windows 7 “Starter,” “Home,” and “Home
Premium” lack necessary network support
Network Accounts
• Three Georgetown Accounts
– UIS – For Mainframe Apps
• Blackboard
• MyAccess
• Any system with “privileged” data
– Google Apps at MSB
• E-Mail
• Online Collaboration
– MSB Printing Account (Novell)
• Network Printing
• Each Account has an Independent Password
Privacy
• Reasonable Expectation of Privacy
• Passwords should be yours alone
– “A secret two people know is not a secret”
• Requirements:

At least 1 uppercase & 1 lowercase letter
At least 1 number
At least 1 punctuation mark
Cannot contain dictionary word
• All network account requests must have ID
Access
• On Campus
– Wireless
• SSID = “HOYAS”; No WEP or WPA
• Wireless setup requires specific procedure
• Off Campus
– Multiple Remote Access Options
• E-Mail: POP / IMAP / Web Services
• PDA Support
MSB – Google Apps & E-Mail

– Don’t use GUMail or HoyaMail

– You will occasionally see internal addresses
