OPERATIONS
AF 1.2
Use the correct order of operations to
evaluate algebraic expressions such as
3(2x + 5)2.
Vocabulary
Expression- A mathematical phrase that contains
operations, numbers, and/or variables
* It has NO equal sign. Example: 8x + 4
Variable- A letter that represents a value that can
change or vary Example: 8x +4
Numerical Expression- An expression that does not
contain variables Example: 3 + 2
Algebraic Expression- An expression that contains
one or more variables. Example: 2x + 5y
Evaluate- To find the value of a numerical or algebraic
expression.

The “P” stands for items in parenthesis
Do all items in the parenthesis first
The “E”
The “E” stands for Exponents
Do anything that has a exponent (power)

Represents Add and Subtract
Do which ever one of these comes first
