The UHS Day

     Everyone starts at 8:00 a.m.

Closed lunch hour and home room for all 9th and 10th graders Choice of 7 or 8 period day for all students Study halls only for seniors Students run on individual schedules, not teams 4/30/2020

The “regular” day 8:00 a.m. to 2:18 p.m.

5 academics + PE + lunch 6 credits per semester    

The “longer” day 8:00 a.m. to 3:08 p.m.

Levels and Progressions

The most important thing in course selection is choosing the appropriate level.

Courses generally have progressions. ex: FL 1-2, FL 3-4, FL 5-6, FL 7-8 Moving from one level to another is possible and is normally done for the next year.

Summer school can help speed progressions, particularly in Mathematics.

State Mandated Writing- Intensive Course

 The state of Illinois recently required two years of writing- intensive coursework.

 One year of this will be met by English taken by 9th graders.

 The second year is currently being developed.

Special Education/ Support Services

  Instructional Courses: Taught by special education teachers, these courses are aligned to meet core requirements and some electives. Educational Support Class: Replacing “Resource,” this is a combination of teaching students better study skills and assisting them with daily work from classes.

Registration Info

  Teachers will give recommendations for core course selections. Registration is done in classroom settings.

 Students have a copy of their choices for parent review.

  Current 8th graders will register at UMS on Thurs., Feb. 9 and Fri., Feb. 10 Current UHS students will register on Mon., Feb. 13 and Tues., Feb. 14  Feb. 21-27 will be review, follow-up, and correction period.
