Four Diploma Types for the Class of 2019

CORE 40

•
General Diploma
• Three Core 40 Diplomas are offered by the State of
Indiana. These diplomas require specific college
preparatory coursework and prepare students to attend
2 and 4-year colleges and universities.
• The state of Indiana Requires a Core 40 Diploma for
students to be eligible for State Financial Assistance.
• Complete at least 42 high school credits
• Complete specified courses in English, Math,
Science, Social Studies, PE, and Health
• Pass the Grade 10 ISTEP+
• No GPA requirement
• Complete at least 6 credits of Math in High
School. Students must be enrolled in a
Mathematics or Quantitative Reasoning class
each year of High School.

-2 in Biology
-2 in Integrated Chem./Physics,
Chemistry , or Physics
-2 additional Core 40 science
credits
Physical Education
-2 credits (PE Waiver Available
for Athletics)
Health
-1 credit
A year of Pre-Calculus and 2 years of a World Language are highly
recommended as many colleges/universities require these courses for
admission.
• This diploma prepares students for
college, technical or trade schools,
apprenticeships, or the workforce.
• Students can earn both a Technical
Honors diploma and an Academic Honors
diploma.
• Complete all requirements for the Core
40 diploma
• Complete at least 47 high school credits
• Earn at least a C- in each course and
earn an overall B (3.0) grade point
average at the time of graduation
• Pass the Grade 10 ISTEP+
• Additional Requirements
Earn 6 credits in the college and career preparation courses in a state-approved
College & Career Pathway and one of the following:
– State approved, industry recognized certification or credential, or
– Pathway dual credits from the approved dual credit list resulting in 6 transcripted
college credits
• Complete One of the following:
• Academic, transferable dual high school/college courses resulting in 6 college credits,
verifiable.
• -Score 1750 or higher composite score, each section must be 530 or higher
• -Score a 26 composite or higher on ACT and complete the written section
• Earn the following minimum Scores on WorkKeys: Reading 6, Math 6, Locating Info 5
• Earn the following minimum score on Accuplacer: Writing 80, Reading 90, and Math
75
• Earn the following minimum score on Compass: Algebra 66, Writing 70, Reading 80
• This is the most rigorous high school
diploma offered by the State of Indiana. It
is best suited for students who plan to
attend a 4-year college or university after
high school.
• Complete requirements for the Core 40
diploma plus additional coursework in Math,
Fine Arts, and World languages.
• Complete at least 47 high school credits
• Earn at least a C- in each course and earn an
overall B (3.0) grade point average at the time
of graduation.

Earn 8 Math credits – 6 of these credits must completed in high school.

– 3 Years of one language or 2 years of two different Languages

• Credit-students will receive one credit for each course they
successfully complete. Semester grades are figured by averaging
two 9 weeks grades along with a final exam or project.
• GPA- Grade Point Average- Each letter grade is assigned a point,
example A=4.0, B=3.0, C=2.0, D=1.0, F= 0 GPA is calculated at
the end of every semester, including all courses, to create a
cumulative GPA.
• ISTEP+ Students must pass the College and Career Readiness
Assessments in Algebra I and English 10 content areas.
• Dual Credit- Students take high school courses that are taught
at the college/university level. These courses count as high
school credit and transcripted college credit.
• All semester grades and credits for freshman,
sophomore, junior, & senior years

The Indiana College and Career Pathways provide an aligned sequence of secondary
and postsecondary courses leading to an industry-recognized credential, technical
certification, or an associate or baccalaureate degree at an accredited postsecondary
institution for careers that are high wage and/or high demand in Indiana.

• Remember that while graduation is 4 years away,
freshman grades are still very important. Get off to a
good start!
• Participate in extracurricular and community service
activities. Start a resume of these activities, utilize
www.careercruising.com
• Complete a career interest inventory and establish a
portfolio at www.careercruising.com. Update regularly.
• All 10th grade students take the PSAT. 11th students who
take the PSAT are entered in the National Merit
Scholarship competition.
• Students may receive up to a full-tuition scholarship to
attend an Indiana
• Students must enroll before the end of 8th grade
• Program is based on family income
• Student must maintain a “C +” (2.5) average in high
school, participate in the Scholar Success Program,
apply for federal financial aid in 12th grade, remain free
of disciplinary concerns, and remain drug and alcohol
free
