their snack.
●
Please remind your child of the school and classroom rules. Toys
are not allowed in the classroom or to bring to recess.
Agendas
Agendas
HOmework
Two of our main goals in our classrooms are to help build fluency in reading
and addition and subtraction facts. These two skills are critical building blocks
for success in school.
What is an" Oops!" and what does it mean?
Please remember that we do keep track of homework
completion and is found on the report card as a student
responsibility.
homework
Reading: at least 10 minutes per
night.
Students must log their reading in the calendar in the front of their agenda each night to show
completion and parents should initial the minutes read.
I encourage you to read with your
child, listen to them read, and discuss
what they have read.
Fry Words
Student are expected to read AND spell all first grade and second grade sight words/Fry
words. These words do not follow normal reading skills. They are more difficult and need to
be practiced for mastery.

Math: 10 minutes

scholastic book club
approximately once a month you will receive catalogs if
you’d like to order books for your child. This is purely
optional but it does help build our classroom library. You
complete your ordering all online.
How can I help my child study their spelling
words?
The goal of practicing spelling words is for students to be able to apply the
phonics skill of the week. The spelling words practiced at home follow the
skill and should not just be memorized. The skill should be able to be
applied to other words as well..
Get creative!
- spell Outloud
- alphabetical order
- chalk on the driveway
- shaving cream
- rainbow write
Spelling City
Birthdays
Can my child celebrate their birthday in class?
We love to make our students’ birthdays special to them, but we
are trying to move away from food as treats on birthdays. As an
alternative to food, we invite your child to bring in a special
item, such as a toy or picture, to show and tell with the class.
If you are having a party at home and would like to invite
classmates, please ask for the class addresses that have been
released. In an effort to reduce hurt feelings, invitations
should be mailed instead of handed out at school.
Can my child pass out invitations at school?
Vocabulary Sentences
●
●
●
●
Attempt the sentences but it is a challenge
This is to help students think of application instead of just
definition.
Sentences should show meaning of the word.
For example, the word “boot”
Accepted Answer: “My brother put on his warm boots to play in the
snow.”
Not Accepted:
● “A boot is something you put on your feet.”
● “I have blue boots.”

How can we help support our child's education at
home?
When tests and papers are brought home, look at them, comment
on them, and review them with your child. Show genuine interest
in their work. This communicates the idea that education is
important, and it encourages your child to do well in school.
See that your child gets plenty of sleep. Encourage exercise and
good nutrition.
Encourage your child to complete homework as early in the
afternoon or evening as possible.
Read with your child and around your child. Encourage your child
to read for pleasure. Discuss what your child reads, what your
read together, and where appropriate, what you are reading.
How can I contact you?
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact me at any point. You may contact me by writing a
note and placing it in your child's take home folder, email,
or by phone.
Together, we can help your child have a successful and
wonderful year.
