RE-ENGINEERING AER
Making the change happen
DISMISSAL OF THE SECRETARY GENERAL
•
Formal notice 21 February 2013:
Asked to comply with the conditions defined
when recruited.
•
First formal warning 22 March 2013:
The conditions laid down in the above notice
were still not respected.
•
Second formal warning 29 April 2013:
A number of residual problems.
“…underline strongly that it expects from your
side a radical change concerning the
matters raised above”.
•
Information to the Bureau and the General Assembly
27 May 2014:
“The AER Executive Board has identified a number of
problems in the relations with the Secretary General.
At 26 May a meeting took place between AER
President Hande Özsan Bozatli, the President of
Committee 2 Karsten Uno Petersen and AER Secretary
General Pascal Georgen, where the problems were
put forward, and Mr Georgen was given the
opportunity to give an explanation.
Following the meeting, Mrs Bozatli and Mr Petersen
conclude that despite two previous formal warnings,
22 March 2013 and 29 April 2013, there has been no
radical change in the Secretary Generals’ behavior
concerning the matters raised. It has therefore been
decided, pending the final decision, to suspend Mr
Georgen from his duties as Secretary General,
effective immediately.
Out of concern for the parties involved, no further
comments will be given in this matter.”

NEW STRATEGY
TWO OBJECTIVES, AND TWO OBJECTIVES ONLY
•
•
Fostering interregional
cooperation to promote the
exchange of experience
and the development of
regional policy.
Results: AER provides
members with a forum for
cooperation and
exchanges based on topics,
thus developing designs,
programmes, projects,
studies, etc. of use to its
members.
•
Promoting interregional
interests in Europe and
beyond.
•
Results: The EU and
European policies in
general, regulations,
funding, etc. reflect what
regions want and need. EU
and wider Europe are
encouraged to put regions
at the heart of their debates
and decision making
process.
