Role of women before the Taliban
• • • • • Women made up 50% of teachers, government employees and students 40% were doctors Late 1950’s women participation in the economy was essential for Afghanistan growth 1964 women had the right to vote and enter government 1970’s woman were being educated and working as government representatives

Role of women after Taliban • • • In 2005 28% of women constitutes make up the parliament The Grameen foundation USA estimated that 11% of entrepreneurs in Afghanistan are women Women make up 65% of the agriculture workforce
Restrictions of rights
• • • • Women can not be treated by male doctors Ban on women's activity outside home unless they are with a Mabraml ( close male relative) Not allowed to get an education No laughing loud (No one can hear a women's voice)

Rights of women now • • Education for girls and women is in the constitution (2003) Receiving the right of healthcare
Role of women during Taliban
• • • All jobs taken away Seen as a housekeeper and birth giver more than anything Forced to stay home
Situation from politics
• • • Current constitution approved in 2004 Women are granted more rights Even with new laws women are still discriminated against due to old ways
