Don Brewer 2014-2015 school Year Students are expected to be in school on time everyday. The school day begins at 8:30 am-breakfast ends at 8:45 and the school day ends at 2:45 pm. This year breakfast and lunch are free for every student. Students who are late to school or picked up early miss valuable instruction time and class discussion. Students with numerous tardies or early outs will be referred to the attendance clerk. * Agendas will serve as primary source of communication between parents and teachers. * Students are responsible for transporting the agenda between home and school everyday. * It is your child’s responsibility to record daily homework assignments and upcoming tests in their agenda everyday. * Teachers will record conduct grade for the week. * Parents are encouraged to look at the agenda daily. * If a teacher writes a note to the parent, the agenda must be signed so that we know the note was read. We like to communicate through your child’s planner and through email. We will check email during the school day if time allows. We always check email prior to leaving the building and I will respond within 24 hours. You may also send a paper note in with your child— Mrs. Schermann has a mailbox for all 3 homerooms. Please feel free to leave a phone message. I will check immediately after school. If it is an emergency let the front office know this and they will buzz my room. Homework will be sent home throughout the week. Students are required to complete the homework and return it the next day unless otherwise stated by the teacher. If a student is absent, homework is due the day after he/she returns. Some days we will go over the homework as a class and other days I will collect the homework. (Students may receive weekend practice based on academic needs) Students are responsible for coping the homework down from the board in their agendas. *Florida Standards are now MAFS: Common Core with a few revisions and additions. The Final in April will look very much different from what we are accustomed to. To help your child prepare for the test, please ask them to explain their math answers and make them “defend” their choice. *Math block is 90 minutes. A 60 minute Gradual Release of Responsibility Math workshop and 30 minutes of differentiated Center Activities, PC, and a teacher learning center (TLC). Students will log on to i-Ready and XtraMath.org during center time on a rotating schedule. These websites can be accessed from home as well. I encourage the students to please log on as often as possible. I will be checking home usage hours and students will be rewarded for their time and effort.
