Dear Andres,
...You, Peter, Bob and Graham caught be by surprise
when we met and it took me several days to realize
the challenge in organizing the program for the
IFORS 2002. It is a big honor for me to serve in
this capacity and I appreciate the trust and
confidence you have given in me. For such an
international conference to succeed, I will need
the help and guidance of many individuals including
all of you.
I look forward to working with you on this major
international event in Operations Research.
Best regards and thanks again.

Over the last two years
 IFORS2002 web site had about 40,000 hits
 I sent 10,000 email (must have received
similar amount).
I looked at the dictionary for the definition of
volunteer work,
A person who voluntarily undertakes or expresses a willingness to
undertake a service: as a: one who enters into military service
voluntarily b (1): one who renders a service or takes part in a
transaction while having no legal concern or interest (2): one who
receives a conveyance or transfer of property without giving valuable
consideration
But I would like to suggest a different definition in
this context
A volunteer is a person who takes time away from
his family and spend it on IFORS.
