Ebru(Paper Decoration)-Metal WorkWood Work
• EBRU is the art of
creating colorful
patterns by
sprinkling and
brushing color
pigments on a pan
of oily water and
then transforming
this pattern to
paper.
• Turkish metal artwork
dates as early as the
2nd and 3rd century BC
in central Asia. Metal
artwork reached its
pinacle in the Ottoman
Empire with the making
of weaponry, such as
swords, helmets, armour,
dagger and knives.
• The decorative wooden
objects found in
excavations in Central
Asia show that the
Turkish art of
woodcarving dates back
to the distant past. Doors
and window shutters,
pulpits of mosques, Koran
stands and lecterns
display highly advanced
woodcarving.

Hortobágy is connected to them.
The animals need water and it’s the
herdsman’s job to make sure the animals
can get enough of it.
Traditional dishes are cooked on open fire.
Slambuc is made in a cast iron pot from
bacon, potato and pasta and needs only little
water. Gulyás is a soup with beef, potatoes
and vegetables. If there are chicken around,
paprika chicken is a delicious change.
While the animals are grazing, they carve a
piece of wood, a bone or a horn of the grey
cattle.
Thousands of tourists visit the „puszta” every
week to go riding and to see the unique
horse show.
Old herdsmen remember the old days and
tell stories, or they discuss results and
strategies for the next season.

WOODWORK
Wood has always been the main raw
material for Romanians, being used for all
types of buildings or for making tools,
household utensils and furniture. In villages,
every peasant knew how to use and process
wood, making and repairing the household
objects on his own. Crosses are also carved with
special symbols, matching the style of the
traditional architecture.

DECORATIVE METAL ARTS - JEWELRY DESIGN - WOOD WORK CARVING
• DECORATIVE METAL ARTS
Blacksmithing is one of the oldest and
The most significant crafts in Lithuania. The
household tools, such as strikers and
razors, were produced for personal use.
The work tools, for instance, axes, knives,
sickles and ploughshares were also made of
metal. Iron was used in the production of
such necessary horse riding details as bits,
stirrups, spurs or buckles.
Iron tops also decorated crucifixions,roof
posts, chapels, crosses and the gates of
cemeteries and churchyards. The hardware,
locks of the chests and doors and lanterns
were produced of iron.
JEWELRY DESIGN
Jewelry making started in the Brass
period (in 1600 BC) in Lithuania. This is
jewelry made of Flexible brass wire or
rod; they also produced bracelets,
necklaces, temple rings, rings and
Brooches etc., of wrought metal.
Pins were the most popular pieces of
jewelry in the Balt’s culture.
Amber is especially popular in
Lithuania.
WOOD WORK
Wood and clay was the
cheapest and the most common
material that Lithuanians used
from ancient times. Not only
houses were built of them but also
various household items were
produced, such as big and little
baskets, seed bowls, mortars,
crockery...
Lithuanians have very
interesting ritual wooden masks
related with Shrovetide characters
and customs.

METAL WORK
In the 18th cc. Bordeaux has 100 000 in
habitants and the rich families build luxurious
Houses which are decorated with metallic
elements in order to increase their prestige.
The craftsmen of Bordeaux became experts
in the art of making barriers and balustrades
for stairs and balconies. They also made
decorative door knockers. It was an
accomplishment to work with metal
considering there was no metal ore in the
region. Bordeaux had to import metal ore
from Sweden.
