Honeywell Aviation Safety Task Force team leader
• Near term legislation (90 days) signed into law
– Baggage screeners, temporary cockpit door restraints
• Mid term legislation (18 months) in process affecting
– Checked baggage screening, cockpit doors, cabin surveillance,
ATC transponders
• Focus on US transport category aircraft fleet
– Registry vs. Airspace mandates TBD
• Some international carriers moving in advance of mandates
Very fast pace to plug immediate holes, with longer term planning

Honeywell’s response
• 9/11 demands different approach to airport/aircraft security
– Infrastructure cannot just be
“scaled up”
• Restore confidence without
unduly compromising efficiency
• Honeywell goals:
– Detect and deter threats on the ground
 Utilize security experience at over 200 airports worldwide
– Detect threat on aircraft, alert authorities
 Upgrade existing avionics on all commercial aircraft
– Prevent entry into cockpit
 Ballistic proof doors with intelligent access control
– Provide post incident analysis
– Provide new seamless integrated safety and security solutions

The Need for NOVA
• Aging Aircraft is a growing. Not necessarily a “geriatric only”
issue.
• Most recent Aging Aircraft conference assembled leaders and
experts to disseminate information on practices and technologies
that will assure the continued airworthiness of aging military and
commercial aircraft.
• 50% of the topics related to aging wiring issues (50% to structural
issues or other topics)
Honeywell has just released its new
Nova Wire Integrity Program™
designed to help the industry save
costs and improve safety.

Summary
• Safety and Security are inter-related
• Safety and Security MUST improve quickly
• Aircraft and Ground systems should cooperate
• Civil and Military systems should cooperate
• Technology exists now to solve the issues
• Industry needs to lead the way
