WGISS Applications Subgroup
WGISS
WGISS Architecture & Data Contributions (WADC) • • • WGISS will lead DA-09-01b Data, Metadata and Products Harmonization Project through WADC – Develop and implement a CEOS WGISS Integrated Catalog (CWIC) prototype for search and discover of CEOS satellite holdings WGISS recommendations for discovery and search to include – Use of CEOS IDN, WGISS inventory search metadata criteria (based on ISO 19115 and elements of CIP 2.4) – Search strategies and portal recommendations to be developed WGISS recommendations will be propagated via DA-09-01b – Host GEO Workshop Nov. 11-12 in Washington DC – WGISS will work with Virtual Constellations and GEOSS SBA on developing portals based on CWIC experience – WGISS team to work with Ivan Petiteville, CEOS liaison to GEO, to report to GEO ADC, and share ADC meeting highlights with WGISS
WGISS
WGISS Disaster Response IG
• • Recommendations for WGISS contributions to the International Charter (Gouqing Li) – – Collaborate with Disaster SBA in CEOS plenary and UN-SPIDER workshop WGISS to help clarify methodology, especially who will be in charge of the value-added processing in the Charter workflow – CEOS WGISS, Charter, Disaster SBA and UNOOSA collaborate to improve the mechanism of inter-agency cooperation Recommend that WGISS-29, hosted by UN-SPIDER, include a disaster management ‘workshop’ to explore information systems and services needs for disaster response
WGISS
Recommended Changes to Clarify Scope of WGISS Disaster Response Activities DI-09-02B Use of Satellites for Risk Management Guy Sequin GEO Disaster Management SBA Lead DI-06-09_7 Disaster Response and Management Capabilities Lorant Czaran/UN-SPIDER, Pakorn Apaphant/GISTDA Other Disaster Response Actions … AR-09-02c_2 Disaster Response Sensor Web Terence van Zyl/CSIR, WGISS Sensor Web IG Lead, Dan Mandl/NASA sensor web technology lead, Natalia Kussel/NASU model grid technology lead DI-09-02b_1 Regional Disaster Response Pilots Stuart Frye/NASA Caribbean Floods, African Floods, Fires Malaria Alerts, tbd
WGISS
Proposed Data Management IG
• • • Agreement on Proposed Scope of Data Management IG: – – Data, meta-data and product topics Concerning data content, metadata content, data formats, data preservation (archiving) – The functionality of tools and data services from user perspective, not technical – Data and meta-data format and exchange standards and guidelines – Common best practices for storing and exchanging data and meta-data Currently insufficient interest/time to lead this IG Recommend to table proposal until WGISS-29 and test interest again
WGISS
•
Global Datasets IG
In response to DA-09-03d Global DEM datasets recommendations to WGISS – Develop plan for Data Quality Web Server (DQW) for Global DEM in cooperation with WGCV and relevant data providers – Data harmonization aspects to be coordinated with WADC – Present to WGISS-29 • Global Dataset development – Maintain awareness of on-going global data set issue – Consider ways to support new CODATA Global Roads initiative with EO data and processes
WGISS
Data Integration &Analysis System (DIAS)
• • Recommend new CEOP for “Coordinated Energy and water cycle Observations Project” leveraging WTF-CEOP – Propose to develop Water Community of Practice Portal – Develop plan and present to WGISS-29 • JAXA Lead, Prof Koike represents the user community • Leverage WTF-CEOP and identify additional data/datasets and services • Seek collaborating Agencies with services/tools and data/datasets DIAS (DA-09-02a) and Data, Metadata & Products Harmonization Project (DMPH, DA-09-02b) joint GEO Workshop Nov 11-12, Washington DC
WGISS
IDN IG
• • • CL-06-02_14 Climate Diagnostic Portal
IDN identified issue of accurate and secure web services; request IDN insights be provided to the WGISS Security white paper
WGISS
• • •
Land Surface Imaging IG
Recommendations for LSI Portal – Explore the feasibility of adding higher resolution data to the available sample data collection. – Foster expansion of LSI user community by cross linking the LSI Portal to other domain-related web portals such as the Forest Carbon Tracking initiative Solicit member partners for the development of a granulate-level data search and access prototype – Collaborate with WADC on development of any LSI prototypes adhering where appropriate to developing metadata conventions being developed by WADC With WGCV, develop plan for including data quality information for LSI-related data and information products (QA4EO)
WGISS
Atmospheric Composition IG
• • • • • GEO AR-09-02a_30 AC Portal – built and demonstrated initial demonstrable capability based on DLR WDC-RSAT and NASA tools Provide feedback and consult with WADC on GCI Work through WGISS Chair to involve other CEOS agencies in providing additional datasets and tools AC Portal demonstration – Plan demo to CEOS Plenary Nov. 2009, feature Thailand – Plan demo to GEO Plenary in November 2010, feature DC Potential Health application project in 2010
WGISS
WGISS – PC Liaison
• • • • WGISS does not have a dedicated person to address unique Precipitation Constellation data processing and data use issues Recommend WGISS liaison role be addressed by WGISS coordination with PC/GDaWG prior to and after meetings – – Satoko will coordinate with the JAXA members of PC and GDaWG Frank will coordinate with the NASA members of PC and GDaWG (primarily Erich Stocker) Satoko and Frank will identify any PC actions needed by WGISS for discussion at WGISS meetings Upcoming PC events to track – Precipitation Measurement Mission (PMM) week of October 26 – Next GDaWG May or June 2010
WGISS
Health SBA and WGISS
• • 3 Candidate WGISS Health Applications identified – IDN Health Services Portal – AC Portal applications – Flood Monitoring (Grid and Sensor Web) applications Recommend WGISS presentation at GEOSS Health Workshop Nov. 12-13, 2009 in Washington DC – Karen and Dan will contact workshop host (Jay Pearlman/IEEE) to get WGISS on the agenda and determine roles in pilot implementations – If not successful (again) recommend tabling WGISS role in Health GEO tasks, although individual applications may pursue the Health SBA
WGISS
