UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM STANDING COMMITTEE ON NUTRITION Task Force on Assessment, Monitoring, and Evaluation Overview of activities as of March 2008 Background The Task Force on Assessment, Monitoring and Evaluation (TF-AME) was set up during the 33rd SCN Session (2006) Role: “harmonize and capitalize on the related work being done across the various constituents of the SCN” (SCN Action Plan) Chairs: FAO and WFP + 12 members from 3 different SCN constituencies Draft concept note: 34th Session SCN (2007) Draft work plan: November 2007 The Task Force’s Areas of Work Area of work 1: establish an agreed upon minimum set of core indicators that measure food deprivation and malnutrition Area of work 2: serve as an effective sounding board for the SCN Working Groups and inter-agency activities Area of work 3: provide a forum where members can exchange information on AME best practices, tools and methods. The TF’s start up activites First full meeting in Rome: January 2008 Objectives: Take stock of key AME efforts by relevant global initiatives and identify synergies; Promote an improved understanding of priority areas of work; Identify follow-up actions addressing priorities of the TF-AME. Planned results 2008 (1) Exchange of information with relevant stakeholders to define synergies Key products to be produced: a statement and a review paper on stunting as the “principle evaluative indicator of poverty reduction”. Fact sheets on selected nutrition and food security indicators or measures. Planned results 2008 (2) A study and/or review of selected indicators and thresholds used in the IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification); Support the revision of the SMART Food Security module. Products/results (current) An annotated Repository of documents related to food security and nutrition indicators 3 fact sheets on the following indicators: MUAC, Dietary Diversity and Household Food Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS).
