This plan includes the following: •Course sequence for all four years of high school •Recommended electives PS - We promise to use a pencil!! 11 Focus of Study – 3 credits Students completing a focus of study must complete 3 credits in one of the following areas: •CTE focus •Fine Art Elective Focus •Math & Science elective focus (above the required courses) •AP Focus (college credits) •Dual Enrollment (college credits) 12 CTE Program of Study •Students must complete 3 credits in the same “Program of Study” area: •Agriculture Science •Automotive Technology •Business/Computer Technology •Culinary Arts •Construction Technology •Health Science •Criminal Justice 13 Advanced Placement Courses offered •AP Human Geography – Freshman •AP World History - Sophomores •AP Biology – Juniors & Seniors •AP Physics – Seniors •AP Chemistry – Seniors •AP English – Juniors and Seniors •AP Psychology – Juniors & Seniors •AP Calculus – Seniors 14 Students with Disabilities •Requires a math class each year achieving at least Algebra IA, Algebra IB, Geometry A & Geometry B •Requires 4 credits in science with either agriscience or physical world concepts, Biology A, Biology B and one additional lab science 15 JCHS Diploma •The Johnson County Board of Education requires 28 credits to graduate with a JCHS Diploma •This gives students approximately 6 extra elective credits to take 16 “Move On” •We use Intervention course for all Failures •PLATO •70 web-based curriculum (very hard) is the highest score you can obtain •Students will not be making up courses in a “sit-down” class 17 Testing •The following courses will have End of Course exams which will make-up 25% of the 2nd 9 weeks grade: •English I, English II, English III •Biology •Chemistry •Algebra I, Algebra II, geometry •US History •10th grade PLAN •11th grade ACT •Both tests are very important!! 18 JCHS utilizes a Block Schedule •Students take 4 classes each semester, for a total of 8 classes per year. •Block classes are 85 minutes each. RTI/Seminar time 30 minutes each day. •Students can take up to 32 classes during their high school career. 19 Bell Schedule 1st – 8:10 – 9:40 (90 minutes) 2nd 9:45 – 11:10 (85 minutes) 3rd 11:10 – 1:10 (120 minutes) 1st lunch 11:10 – 11:40 2nd lunch 11:40 – 12:10 3rd lunch 12:10 – 12:40 RTI 1:15 – 1:45 (30 minutes) 4th 1:50 – 3:15 (85 minutes) 2/21/2012 20 Sample Block Schedule for a th 9 Grader Period 1st Semester 2nd Semester 1 Elective Freshman Science 2 Algebra IA Algebra IB 3 English I Lifetime Wellness RTI/Seminar 4 World History Elective 21 Presidential Academic Excellence Award •Criteria for JCHS Seniors: •Must score at the 85th Percentile or higher in reading/language arts (29) OR math (27) on the ACT •GPA of 3.5 or higher •Complete a rigorous curriculum in high school •Students must not have had any of the following disciplinary actions: ESC, Out-ofSchool Suspensions, and/or Court Appearances 22 Attendance at JCHS •Students can miss 4 days in each class (excused or unexcused). •Upon missing their 5th day, they must make up their time in order to pass the class. •They can do this by staying after school, coming in before school, or attending Saturday school. •There are NO exceptions to this policy & students need to make up their time as soon as they miss the class. 23 Late to School Tardy Policy (per Semester) •1st Tardy = Warning •2nd Tardy = Call Home •3rd Tardy or more = lunch detention for every tardy or early dismissal **Each teacher has their own Late to Class Policy** 24 Grading Scale A ……….93-100 B ……….85-92 C ……….75-84 D ……….70-74 F ………..0-69 **3 points are added to honors & dual classes only.
