Reproduction
Types of Reproduction
1. Asexual – one parent
2. Sexual - two parents
Asexual Reproduction
The prefix “A” comes from the Greek
language and means “not." "Sex"
means "to cross.“

Asexual organisms make exact copies
of themselves, almost like a
photocopy.

1. In asexual reproduction how
many parents are necessary to
produce offspring?
2. What might be some benefits
to asexual reproduction?
3. How diverse (different) are
the offspring of asexual
reproduction?
4. Where do the offspring
from asexual reproduction
receive all of their genetic
material?
Sexual
Reproduction
oSexual reproduction means that two parents combine
parts of their genetic material.
oWith sexual reproduction, there is usually a male and
a female.
oThe male contributes a copy of half of his genetic
material and the female contributes a copy of half of
her genetic material.
oThe “baby” that is born is called the offspring. In a
very basic way, offspring get half of their traits from
each parent.
oBecause of the way the male and female copy their
own genetic material and the way they are combined,
each offspring is different.
