National Targets and Performance Indicators

1. Road Safety Issues Cambodian Context

• •

Road traffic crashes in Cambodia: 46% of all kinds of recorded injuries in the countries almost 7% towards the causes of physical impairment and disability The total economic loss of road traffic accidents was estimated at 248 million US$ (HIB) in 2009 SWOV

Road crashes increase more proportionally than road traffic and population.

Every day, more than 4 persons die and many others are injured.

Over the last 5 years, the number of fatalities increased almost double. Evolution of road fatalities, vehicles and population and casualties (base 100 = 1998) 1998 1999 2000 Population 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 Registered Vehicles 2006 2007 2008 2009 Fatalities

2. Cambodia National Road Safety Action Plan The first and second action Plans

In2004, the Cambodian Government developed the

first

National Road Safety Action Plan 2006 2010, with the support from ADB In early 2010, the government started to develop the

second

to the Action Plan 2011-2020, to response “Decade of Action for Road Safety” and based on the international framework SWOV

NRSAP 2006-2010 What actions were successfully implemented?

• Establishment of NRSC • RCVIS • Road safety education • Road traffic law and enforcement • Awareness campaigns (helmets) • Partnerships

SWOV

NRSAP 2006-2010 What actions were not satisfactorily completed?
