Trey and Shawn
• Question – Which jar will heat up more in 10
minutes – a jar with a lid or one without?
• Hypothesis – I think the jar with a lid will heat up
more in 10 minutes
• Variables
– IV: Jar with lid and jar without lid
– DV: Temperature of jar after 10 minutes
– Control: same type of jars, same heat lamp, same
distance from lamp, same amount of dirt
Trey and Shawn con’t.
• Trey and Shawn put black dirt into two
jars. They then put a thermometer into
each jar. They put a lid on one jar and left
the other jar open. They put the jars 30 cm
from the heat lamp and turned it on. They
took the temperature of the jars every
minute for 10 minutes
Trey and Shawn con’t.
• Results – see data table
• Conclusion – The jar with the lid heated up
faster than the jar without the lid. After 10
minutes, the jar with the lid was 92
degrees C and the jar without the lid was
61 degrees C
• Graph – Line graph with two lines
– X axis = time
– Y axis = temperature
Cindy and Wanda
• Question: Which watch is made out of real
gold?
• Hypothesis: I think that watch #2 is made
of real gold?
• Variables:
– IV: Watch
– DV: density of watch
– Controls: same balance to measure mass
Cindy and Wanda con’t
• Wanda and Cindy calculated the density of each
watch and then compared it to the density of real
gold.
• Results: see data table
• Conclusion: Based on the density of real gold,
Wanda and Cindy concluded that watch #2 is
mostly likely real gold
• Graph: bar graph
– X axis: watch
– Y axis: density of watch
Sammie and George
• Question: What freezes faster – koolaid or
water?
• Hypothesis: I think that water will freeze
faster than koolaid
• Variables:
– IV: Type of liquid
– DV: Time to freezing
– Controls: same freezer, same type of ice cube
trays
Sammie and George con’t.
• Sammie and George filled two ice cube trays –
one with water and the other with koolaid. They
then placed the trays in the same freezer and
timed how long it took each tray of liquid to
freeze.
• Results – see data table
• Conclusion: The data indicated that kool-aid
takes less time to freeze than water
• Graph – bar graph
– X-axis: Type of liquid
– Y-axis: time it takes the liquid to freeze
Cara and Frannie
• Question: What type of shoes help a
person run faster?
• Hypothesis: I think Asics shoes will help a
person run faster.
• Variables:
– IV: Type of shoe
– DV: Time it takes to run 100 yards
– Controls: same person running, same person
running, same track
Cara and Frannie, con’t.
• Cara and Frannie had two different shoes
– Nike and Asics. Cara put on Nikes and
ran the 100-yard dash while Frannie
timed. Then Cara put on the Asics and ran
the 100-yard dash while Frannie timed.
They tested each shoe 3 times.
• Results- see data table
• Conclusion: Based on the average time,
Asics help a person run faster than Nikes
Cara and Frannie con’t.
• Graph – Bar graph
– X-axis: Type of shoe
– Y-axis: Average time
