All first-time, incoming freshmen register for classes in the
AAC. Beginning Fall 2013, all freshmen (excluding
College of Professional Studies) will continue to be
advised by the AAC’s professional staff until sixty (60)
credit hours are completed. At the completion of sixty
(60) credit hours, students will be aided by the AAC
advisor in the transition to their major specific faculty
advisors.
Call 964-0843 to make an appointment in advance of
your registration date.

Early Registration
Question #1: When can I register??

Early registration is enrollment conducted in advance of the semester.

Tech conducts early registration twice a year


November for the Spring (January – May) semester and

April for Summer (June and July) and Fall (August – December) semesters
Students will enroll according to their current number of earned hours (hours earned
prior to the current semester). (See OneTech for your transcript to view earned hours.)
November 11-13: 60 or more earned hours & Graduate students
November 14-18: 20 to 59 earned hours
November 19-21: 3 to 19 earned hours
November 22-26: 2 or fewer earned hours
My Advisor
Question #2/3: Do I have to meet with my advisor to register? What is a
mentor?



Every student must contact their Advisor before registering to
get their Student Registration Code.
All freshmen have an Academic Advisor and a Bridge to
Excellence Mentor.
Advisors differ from mentors.

Mentors are helpful in easing your transition to college but can’t “sign-off”
on changes to your schedule, or make you eligible to register. For some
students this may be the same person but for many these roles will be
provided by 2 people.
How can I prepare for registration?

The Undergraduate Catalog



Describes the policies and procedures for completing a
college degree at Arkansas Tech University.
To access the catalog go to the ATU website: www.atu.edu
There is a new catalog each year. Changes usually
occur.

Typically, students will keep working from the same catalog
they started with; it is possible to change to a newer catalog.
However, it’s not possible to use an older catalog.
The Undergraduate Catalog

Major Requirements: Decided students need to refer to their college/major
section of the catalog.

On the catalog homepage you will see the Colleges and Departments.
Under your department title is where your degree plan will be located.
(Ex: Department of Behaviors Sciences will have Psychology, Sociology,
and etc.)



Once you have clicked on your department title scroll until you find the
curriculum in your major. The curriculum lists the classes you’ll need to take to
complete your degree.
Click on the course numbers to get course titles, descriptions, and prerequisites.
Courses that are recommended/required for each semester are listed.


Some classes are recommended in this order and some classes must be taken in
this order
Electives are courses you can pick from another subject area that is not required
by your major (some restrictions occur) – talk to your advisor for more
information.
Preparation for Your Advising Session
Question #4:What do I need to have/know before seeing my advisor?
1. Go online to the undergraduate catalog


Undecided students should look at the General Education
Requirements to see which they’ve completed (or will complete), and
then see what’s next.
Decided students should look at their Major Requirements and General
Education and check the courses they’ve completed.
2. Make a chart of your proposed class schedule. Chart times
and days of the week.



Use a Permit-To-Register(PTR)/Registration Worksheet
Choose alternative courses in case the ones you want are full, or are
discouraged by your Advisor.
Check for pre-requisites for these courses by going to the course
descriptions of the online catalog, or clicking on the course
prefix/number on your degree plan.
PTR
***You can find a PTR on the Registrar’s Office website.
Preparation for Your Advising Session
3. Go to the online Schedule of Courses.

Reminders
Keep these things in mind:

Freshmen are the last to register for classes. It’s important to register
online as soon as possible. Waiting can lead to unwanted classes,
professors, or times.

Remember, you may have to put off a popular class until a later
semester when you’ve accrued more credits.

The only credits that count toward registering are the ones you’ve
already completed and are on your transcript (earned hours). These
include courses on your transcript such as:
 College courses transferred from another university/college
 AP and CLEP credits
