PRESENTATION OF NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR RICE DEVELOPMENT IN BURKINA FASO Présentation: Mr Youssouf OUATTRARA Point focal Task force Background-Basic facts Burkina Faso is a West African country; Total area=274,200 km2 ; Population (2009)=15.74 million, Population growth rate= 3%; GDP (2008): 7.28 Billion US$, GDP Per capita (2008): 480 US$; Agriculture represents 33% of its GDP and occupies 85% of the working population; Self-sufficiency ratio of rice is 30%; Import value of rice (2007): 60 Million US$.
