Introduction
I chose the spinner Dolphin, because when I went to
Hawaii, we went dolphin watching and there were
spinner dolphins everywhere! They would pop out of the
water and spin for us. It was amazing! They are so cool
when they come out of the water in mid air to spin and
then flop back into the water. I like this animal because
it has a cute long snout. Actually , the other name for the
spinner dolphin is the long snouted dolphin. They can
be very friendly if they are trained. They even look
friendly and peaceful. This is all I know about the
spinner dolphin from my trip to Hawaii so far. I look
forward to learning more info to share with you about
the spinner dolphin.
 Here are some body characteristics of the spinner dolphin. Spinner
dolphins are very small. They are also spotted. They have long snouts
just like I said in the introduction. They do have teeth but I am not
sure how sharp they are. They pop out of the water so they can breath.
They must breath every few minutes or they will suffocate. That
means die because they have no air to breath. They are called small
toothed whales sometimes. The length of a spinner dolphin is 129-235
in centimeters and weighs 23-78 kg. I’m still learning much, much
more. I hope you liked my information on body characteristics. I
have enjoyed sharing this information with you. I will share more
information on the other pages. Enjoy and have fun reading about the
spinner dolphin!
 Here is information about food and nutrition from the
spinner dolphin. They eat fish such as, latern fish
(spinner dolphins main food), squid, shrimp, and
mesopelagic fish. Spinner dolphins also eat at night.
They travel in groups of 100 to hunt. This information
is very cool and interesting. The spinner dolphins main
threat is the shark. So spinner dolphins, STAY AWAY
FROM SHARKS!! I am still learning more information
as you know. I will share more information as I learn
more. I hope you like the rest of my report and I hope
you learn more information as you read on!
Habitat
 Here is some fact about the spinner dolphins habitat.
Spinner dolphins are found in open oceans. They live in
warm, temperate waters. That means they live in warm
water. They are mainly offshore because they can’t breath
on land. They live in tropical places such as Hawaii. That
proves that I did see the spinner dolphins in Hawaii! But
only SOME live in Hawaii. Some also live in Costa Rica.
They swim in shallow reefs so their bellies don’t get
scratched. They are tropical high seas species. The sand
they swim above is usually soft so they don’t get scratched
by it. I hope you liked this information. I hope you learn a
lot in the next paragraph
Life Cycle
 Here is some of the life cycle of the spinner dolphin. Baby
spinner dolphins are called calves. Calves are born every 3 years.
Calves get nursed by their mother for about 2 years. Well I bet
that’s a good mom! The mother and its calf form a bond that can
last a lifetime. Isn’t that sweet! A calf is born tail first with its
eyes open. Us humans are born head first and not feet first.
Spinners give live birth. That means they do not come from an
egg. Right after a calf is born, it immediately follows its mother.
Wow, I don’t have to do that! My mom just holds me and carries
me home! The mother spinner stays with its calf for about 3 to 8
years. I would stay with my mom for a least 18 years. The spinner
dolphin lives up to about 30 years. Most humans stay alive for
about 3x as long. I hope you liked these facts. As I said we are
almost to the end! I hope you like the next few facts I will give
you in the next paragraphs. Enjoy!
 Here are some facts about enemies and survival functions
from the spinner dolphin. Other spinners cooperate. So
that means they do not use cannibalism which means they
do not eat each other. Sharks are a major threat. Especially
a great white sharks, those things are huge! So spinner
dolphins, stay away from sharks! Fishers are also a big
threat. They are because tuna leads spinners to food so
tuna fishers follow the spinners. If the tuna fishers aren’t
careful when they are catching tuna, the spinners will get
caught in the net with the tuna and they will soon die. So
spinners no longer go near ships or boats anymore. I hope
you like this information as you read on. We are getting
close to the end! I hope you learn more as you read on.
Enjoy!
Interesting facts!
Here are some interesting facts about the spinner
dolphin!
 The spinner dolphin is the most common small
cetacean in many tropical open seas.
 Spinner dolphins also use echolocation.
 Spinner dolphins travel in groups called schools.
 Spinner dolphins are MAMMALS NOT FISH!
 A spinner dolphin has lungs and is warm blooded.
 Well, we are finally at the end of my report. Here I will summarize
the whole report for you using one fact from each paragraph. Here
we go! Spinner dolphins are spotted. A spinner dolphin lives up to at
least 30 years. The main food spinner dolphins eat are called latern
fish. They live in tropical such as Hawaii. Sharks is a major threat
and so is the killer whale. And last but not least, spinner dolphins
are MAMMALS AND NOT FISH! Well I thought they were fish
when I did a science project in class. There was a fish category and a
mammal category and I put the spinner dolphin in the fish
category! Oppsie! Well this is the end of my animal report! I would
recommend it if you are doing a report about the spinner dolphin! I
put so much work into it! (it actually took me nine weeks to do it!) I
hope you liked it! I also hope you learned a lot about the spinner
dolphin! Enjoy!
