CONTENT ANALYSIS

“The princess on the road” is a one-act play by Kathleen Conyngham Greene. It deals with the story of a princess who sheds her attire and appears dressed up as a peasant girl.

PRE-REQUISITES

• The pupils heard about plays.

• The pupils have read stories of Kings and Princess.

CLASSROOM INTERACTION PROCEDURE

Informal talk Teacher creates a friendly atmosphere in the class by asking a few questions such as; • How are you feeling today?

• How was your previous class?

• Did you have your breakfast?

• Are you feeling sleepy?

Entry Activity Teacher asks some more questions such as; • Have you seen any play?

• Where do prince and princess live?

(Teacher shows the picture of castle)

Pupil listens carefully

Teacher writes the title and the author’s name on the black board.

Micro Processing of the input Reading aloud by the teacher Teacher reads the passage with correct pronunciation, stress, pause and intonation.

Pupil listens

Silent reading Pupils read the passage silently and they asked to do track reading.

Teacher asks them to come up with their doubts.

Megaphones the doubts to the whole class.

Word study • Adventure- Exciting or dangerous journey.

• Set out- Begin a journey.

• Peasant- Farmer • Conquer- Overcome by force.

• Rag- Torn and dirty piece of woven material.

Pupil asks doubts

Detailed study Teacher asks some questions such as; • Who is the main character in the story?

• Is she dressed like a princess?

• What is the princess husband’s name?

• Who begins to sing?

• Who could be the “You” in the song?

Group activity Teacher divides the class into groups Teacher shows the picture of village and city.

Pupil responds

Teacher: Compare rural life with urban life.

Assignment Pick out the pieces of conversation that throw light on the upbringing of the princess.
