Ambroise Vollard Senior
High School
Strong points:
• Few discipline problems with the students.
• Relatively stable teaching staff.
• Good relations with neighbouring educational institutions
(close to the junior high school, the Institute of Technology, the
l’IFSI, and in the middle of a major urban development project).
• A significant improvement in the Baccalauréat success rate in
the last 5 years (84% in 2009).
Weak points:
• The level of grade ten students remains the weak point
(1 out of 4 students does not move up to grade 11).
• Little or no sense of work ethic.
• A higher absence rate (8%) than the academic average
(5%).
The success rate for the Baccalauréat, while good and steadily
improving, disguises the differences between the general and
the technological series as for example in 2009 (general series
91.08% success and technological series 75.9%) and between
the different technological series :
•A new record in applied arts with 100% .
•A low rate in STG (management) (69.5%) compared to the
academic average (82.5%).
The results for the stream orientation of grade 10 students
(26% repeat, go to a vocational school or to some other type of
training centre or quit) correlated with the success rate for the
Baccalauréat exam clearly indicate the main areas to
consolidate.

Student life at Ambroise Vollard
Three Principal Education Councillors lead a team composed of 16 teaching assistants and 3
monitors. Not only are they in charge of the daily management of students, but also the
Students’ Club which has many activities such as dance, drama and a space for playing pingpong and board games.
They also supervise the 90-bed dormitory where 28 places are reserved for the St Pierre
vocational school. The remaining places are reserved mostly for students in Applied Arts and
Medical and social sciences who often live far from the school.
