 As we read, annotate the major details. I
strongly suggest you annotate as well so you
can write a more effective summary.


YOUR GROUP WILL BE GIVEN A QUESTION.
COMPARE YOUR ANSWERS AND CHOOSE ONE
PERSON TO SHARE AN ANSWER.
 GROUP 1 & 5: What is the main idea of the
article?
 GROUP 2: What self-image do tweens cultivate?
How do they project this image to others?
 GROUP 3: What physically dangerous
behavioral trends does Hymowitz link to the
tween phenomenon?
 GROUP 4: What types of examples does
Hymowitz provide in her essay? What do these
examples prove?

DISCUSS THE QUESTION ASSIGNED TO YOUR
GROUP. ON A PIECE OF PAPER, WRITE DOWN
YOUR POSITION AND GIVE EXAMPLES.





GROUP 1: Was the piece convincing? Why or why not,
specifically? Is it well-researched? Are the sources the author
uses reputable? Why or why not?
GROUP 2: Did the author overlook or leave out anything
important? What?
GROUP 3: Is the author one-sided (even if he or she takes your
side), or does the author presented a balanced view?
GROUP 4: What questions does the piece raise for you -- about
the topic, about other things?
GROUP 5: Does the piece remind you of other topics or issues
in society?
