Name one internal structure
that helps you to survive.
What organ system is it part
of?
ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
What traits or characteristics provide an
adaptive advantage for survival in some
animals?
OBJECTIVES:
-Explore internal and external
structures and how they provide an
adaptive advantage for some animals.

What is an advantage?
ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
How can traits change in a population over
time?
OBJECTIVES:
-Explore how traits (or genes) are
passed down from generation to
generation and how that impacts the
survival of a species.

INTERNAL or EXTERNAL?
How does this adaptation enhance survival of the
organism?
This is an
external
feature.
The coloration of
flowers attracts bees
and sends signals to
bees that there is
pollen present. The
bees are attracted to
the flower and collect
the pollen. When they
land on other plants
they pollinate those
plants allowing the
plant to reproduce.

Natural Selection
Natural Selection
Glossary:
• Natural Selection- A process in nature that
occurs if an organism is better adapted to
survive than another.
DO NOW
Date:
1/17
Describe Natural Selection in
your own words.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION:
How can traits change in a population over
time?
OBJECTIVES:
-Take a quiz on adaptation and natural
selection.
NOTEBOOK QUIZ
Create your own animal!
-Invent an animal (a fictional one) that is able to
survive in their habitat.
-Includes ways they find food, water, shelter,
protect themselves etc…
-Label any internal and external structures that
allow their animal to survive in its habitat.
-Name the animal
-Include the Biome
What is a Biome?
Biomes are regions of the world with similar
climate (weather, temperature) animals and
plants.
Examples:
Deserts Coral Reefs Savannahs
Alpine Forests Tundra
Taiga
Sections to include on your poster:
-Name of the animal
-Drawing of the animal
-Biome (with brief description) animal lives in
-Label internal and/or external structures that help
the animal survive.
-Brief summary of the animals:
*adaptations
*food/water source
*any other information you want to include
***************Use color!******************
