success. We need to broaden the lens and build more articulated
pathways.”

to success is not acceptable. Many students are frustrated by an
education they often find irrelevant and removed from the world of
work.”
“Our current system places far too much emphasis on a single
pathway to success: attending and graduating from a four-year
college after completing an academic program in high school.
Students who are bored and at risk of dropping out need to be
engaged more effectively.”

Keynote Speaker
WELDING/I-BEST PROGRAM
Integrating English-as-a-Second Language & Welding Training
Welding/I-BEST is a twenty-week program to train English-as-aSecond Language speakers the language skills related to welding
as well as the vocational skills necessary to complete Welding 111,
112, and Welding 190 towards a certificate or degree.
Classes start on January 9th!
Evening and Weekend Program!
Students learn essential language skills related to the welding
industry so that participants in the program gain vocational and
language skills at the same time.
Tuesday & Thursday 5pm - 9pm
Saturday 9am - 2:30pm
The median wage for welders is $14 an hour, but some make
more or less than this amount depending on experience.
Students must complete a language appraisal test before
enrolling.
