Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College
Associate Degree Nursing Admission
Process
Phase 3:
Petition to be
Admitted to the ADN
Core Program
Before you proceed with the Petition Process
ask yourself:
“Am I ready?”
 Is this the right time for me to begin?
•
•
•
•
Do I have reliable transportation?
Do I have financial support in place?
Do I have family support?
Do I have reliable childcare?
Before you proceed with the Petition Process
ask yourself:
“Am I ready?”
 Is this the right career for me?
• Students are encouraged to explore with a WITC
counselor the career of nursing fully before
making the significant commitment this program
and the profession demands – nursing is NOT for
everyone!
Before you proceed with the Petition Process
ask yourself:
“Am I ready?”
How much time will I need to devote to
studying?
• Many students experience “culture shock” at the
rigor and demands of the core nursing program
• For every 1 hour of class, you should expect to
study 3 hours outside of class
Before you proceed with the Petition Process
ask yourself:
“Am I ready?”
Should I work while in the core nursing
courses?
• Successful students work limited hours, if they work
at all
• It is highly recommended that you limit your hours
of outside work while in the program
• Don’t let a job interfere with your dream to become a
Registered Nurse!
Before you proceed with the Petition Process
ask yourself:
“Am I ready?”
Have I included my family in this decision?
• Successful students have supportive family members who
are willing to take on some of your responsibilities so that
you can be successful at school
• These adjustments can be very difficult and family members
can grow weary over time
• Have an honest dialogue with family members to ensure
that they can support you for “the long haul”
If you can honestly answer YES to
the “Am I ready?” questions, move
forward with the ADN Admissions
