INTRODUCTION
• Over the centuries of human history the ocean
has produced fear and wonder in each of us. It
is only in recent times, the past 150 years, that
we as a species have begun to unravel the
mystery that is our ocean. The individuals
who follow this thread are exceptional in their
own right. The information they have
gathered brings to light just how important the
ocean is to the future of our planet.
TASK
• Your task will be to educate the class on who
your assigned ocean explorer is using the
internet as your information medium.
• More detailed tasks will be addressed in the
Process slide of this presentation. Remember to
support your data with references. Use caution
on personal websites and remember to back up
your information.

Process
• Split into 3 groups of 3. Each group will be
assigned an explorer. Individual members of the
group will research their explorer via the
internet. The groups will conduct individual
research. When this research is completed the
group will develop a presentation for the class.
This presentation list all of the pertinent data
and be compiled neatly and sequentially onto a
disk. Split up tasks evenly. It is very important
that the group work together as a whole.
Individual research should complement the
group project.
AS A GROUP YOU WILL:
1. Find out who your explorer is
2. Discover what research project put your explorer on the
map
3. Research conservation impacts that he/she has made.
4. Identify your explorers conservation implications for the
future
5. Tell the class why we need to know all of this
information
INDIVIDUALLY YOU WILL:
Share with the class your views on how this project has
changed your outlook on the ocean

Conclusion
We know more about the surface of Mars than we
do about the bottom of the ocean. It is
imperative that oceanic research be supported
and potential problems be identified for the
continued health and well being of our planet.
These 3 ocean pioneers started a chain reaction
in our thirst for knowledge of what lives
beneath the seas. Each generation should dive
deeper into the depths of our understanding of
the sea.
