Equality Delivery System Jenna Brown Equality and Diversity Manager Prepared for - North East Ambulance Local Involvement Network Forum 7th March 2012 Equality Delivery System The EDS is a framework designed to help us review and assess our equality performance The EDS applies to people afforded protection, by the Equality Act 2010, from unfavourable treatment because of specified ‘protected’ characteristics Protected characteristics • • • • • • • • • Age Disability Gender re-assignment Marriage and civil partnership Race including national identity and ethnicity Religion or belief Sex (that is, is someone female or male) Sexual orientation Pregnancy and maternity The EDS will help us understand how we can make improvements for our staff and patients. Success is dependent on identifying future priorities and equality actions that integrate into our mainstream business plans 2 EDS - Analysis Organisations analyse and grade their equality performance against 18 outcomes grouped into 4 objectives: 1 Better health outcomes for all 2 Improved patient access and experience 3 Empowered, engaged and included staff 4 Inclusive leadership Consultation must be inclusive , representative and involve staff, patients, local communities, Third Sector organisations etc… 3 Consultation Plan Patients/ Communities & Interest groups • • • • • • • • • Face to face consultation Gateshead/South of Tyne Regional groups – Tyne Trans, LGB Questionnaire – targeted to groups across the region Twitter/ Facebook LINKs Governors Information through PCT’S and Equality and Diversity leads across the region Pals Questionnaire published on Internet Workforce • • • • • • • • • Questionnaire – communicated through payslip and the Summarypublished on internet Bulletin in control room Focus group in control room Staff side Group discussions in E&D meeting Self Assessment Drop in sessions in Durham and Ashington Staff networks – BME, LGB and Religion and Belief Staff Governors 4 EDS – Grading Self Assessment -Organisations analyse and grade their equality performance Grading For each EDS outcome, there are four grades, and a RAG “plus” rating, to choose from : • • • • Excelling – Purple Achieving - Green Developing – Amber Undeveloped – Red A representative grading panel will meet on 27th March to analyse evidence and agree the grade. Grading is evidence based; where no evidence can be provided, the grade will remain at ‘undeveloped’.
