A Time of Transition
● The transition to the high school coincides with a teenager’s

desire to increase their level of independence.
Students will experience an increase in freedom which is both
demanded by teens and required by the structure of the high
school
Students might have 10 different teachers in one year (more
teachers and expectations to learn about)
Students may or may not bring the information home.
Parents are encouraged to communicate directly with
teachers. Email has become a strong communication tool for
parents and teachers at LCHS.
In order to support this transition, LCHS has Student Advisory.

alternate with
another core

OUTCOMES FOR ADVISORY
Advisory at LCHS occurs daily, at the end of block three for a fifteen minute period.
Attendance Tuesdays- Each Tuesday advisory teachers receive an attendance print out for their advisory class (
block three). If a student has missed three classes (unexcused), the teacher will have a conversation with
the student around the importance of attendance at LCHS. At five unexcused absences, the teacher will
assign the student to make up an hour in Student Success.
During other days of the week, teachers will schedule activities during advisory time that may include, current
events, character education, homework support, career education, as well as building positive relationships
with peers and staff.
Students will:
● develop the abilities to contribute to the well being of self and others.
