God’s Love In Action
Mission Statement


Habitat seeks to eliminate poverty
housing and homelessness from the
world, and to make decent shelter
a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat invites people of all
backgrounds, races and religions to
build houses together in
partnership with families in need.
How Does Habitat Work?



Habitat homes are built with volunteer
labor and donations of money and
materials.
Habitat homes are sold to partner families
at no profit, financed with affordable,
no-interest loans.
The homeowners' monthly mortgage
payments are used to build additional
Habitat houses.
Alachua Habitat for Humanity



Locally, we have built 78 homes
since we were established in 1986.
We were awarded a capacity build
grant last summer and our goal is
to increase the number of homes
built in one year from 3-4 up to 10.
We have completed 5 homes so far
this year and have 7 under
construction right now.

become partners in the program
and their ability to repay the nointerest loan.
Habitat does not discriminate on the
basis of race, creed, color, religion,
age, gender, familial status, national
origin or disability.
Family Support Committee

Volunteers provide guidance and
emotional support.
Residents must complete classes on
personal money management, home
maintenance, etc.
What is Required of a Resident?
Habitat is not a giveaway
program.


Residents must complete 400 hours of
“sweat equity.” (Work 200 hours on
their neighbors home and 200 on
their own)
Residents must pay monthly,
no-interest mortgage payments.

homes in the southeast region of Gainesville.
Each family working side-by-side with their
neighbors and other volunteers.
Construction began in January 2004
$3.5 million in charitable donations are needed
to cover costs.
