Main idea of project
Ion-beam technology:
 Research tasks: non-destructive analysis of thickness, structure and composition of the of
coatings with resolution up to several angstroms;
 Creation and modification of coatings: ion implantation.
Proposal: To creation of an association center for research and modification of coatings
by ion-beam technologies.

Background of the creation association center
 Two years of experience successful
commercial
research
contracts
laboratory ion-beam nanotechnologies
SINP (www.ionlab.ru);
 High interest research laboratories and
industrial companies in the research and
development of coatings by ion-beam
techniques;
 The lack of competition in Russia, due to
the complete absence of such proposals
to date and in a reasonable time of the
project, in the presence of high interest
research laboratories and industrial
companies in such research.

Similar foreign centers
Similar foreign centers:
 Research center Helmholtz Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf
(www.hzdr.de);
 Network of companies Ion Beam Services
(www.ion-beam-services.com).
Creation of such a center in Russia will:
 Expand the applicability of ion-beam analysis techniques and modification of
coatings for research and industrial applications;
 Create a globally competitive innovative research center;
 Maintain and develop the existing accelerator centers, and give a new impetus to
the development of ion-beam technologies and their wider use in research on
innovative areas of nanotechnology development in Russia.

Created center will:
 Organize a unified and seamless system for the study and modification of
coatings using ion-beam techniques based on the three accelerator
complex (SINP, YF FTIAN and BFU);
 Conduct research and commercial work in the whole energy range of ion
bombardment that is relevant to modern problems of micro- and nanoelectronics (from hundreds of eV to 2000keV);
 Conduct research and commercial work on the ion irradiation and study
in-situ, including an industrial scale;
 Combine the potential of professionals and equipment of three research
facilities for the study of ion bombardment and at different exposure
settings, as well as a quick consultation of experts in the combined group
on the problems encountered when using the accelerator.
