OTHER
ASSESSMENT
INFORMATION
CAMT June 2007
QUANTILES
 Reported on Confidential Student Reports for TAKS
mathematics
 Linked to a student’s mathematics score on TAKS
and is one indicator of his or her mathematical ability
 Based on a study using 2006 TAKS data to link
TAKS with the Quantile Framework
 An educational tool that helps schools and parents
evaluate and monitor students’ mathematical
achievement
CAMT June 2007
QUANTILES
 Do not translate specifically to a grade level
 Span the curriculum from kindergarten through
grade 12, ranging from 0Q to above 1400Q
 Help track student’s growth in mathematics
over time, no matter what grade he or she is in
 More information at www.Quantiles.com
CAMT June 2007
Student Success Initiative (SSI)
 In spring 2008, 8th graders will be subject
to all SSI requirements for both reading
and mathematics.
 The goal of the SSI is to ensure that all
students receive the instruction and
support they need to be academically
successful in mathematics and reading.
CAMT June 2007
Student Success Initiative (SSI)
 A student must be given three
opportunities to pass the required
assessments.
 If after three opportunities a student
is not successful, the student is
automatically retained.
CAMT June 2007
Student Success Initiative (SSI)
 A student’s parents may appeal the
automatic retention.
 The Grade Placement Committee
(GPC) only by unanimous decision
may promote a student to the next
grade level.
CAMT June 2007
Student Success Initiative (SSI)
 The GPC Manual is being revised for
2007-2008 to include information
regarding grade 8.
 The GPC Manual contains sample forms
and letters, flowcharts, and FAQs.
 The 2007-2008 GPC Manual will be
posted to TEA website and shipped to
districts in August/September 2007.

LEGISLATIVE
UPDATE
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—EOC Assessments
 Phase-out high school TAKS and replace it
with EOC assessments in
 Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry
 English I, English II, and English III
 Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
 U.S. History, World History, and World
Geography
 Freshman class of 2011-2012 is first group to
have EOC as graduation requirement
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—EOC Assessments
 To graduate, students must attain
 Cumulative score ≥ 70n
 n = number of EOC assessments taken
in each subject
 For students under the Recommended &
Distinguished HS Plan, this means
 Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II
n=3
 Cumulative score ≥ 210
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—EOC Assessments
 Students must score at least 60 in order
for it to count towards their cumulative
score
 Students scoring below 60 shall retake
the assessment each time it is
administered
 Students scoring below 70 will receive
accelerated instruction
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—EOC Assessments
 Any other student may retake an EOC
assessment for any reason
 A student is not required to retake a
course as a condition of retaking an
EOC assessment
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—EOC Assessments
 A student’s score on an EOC
assessment shall be worth 15% of the
student’s final grade for that course
 A school district is not required to use
the student’s score on subsequent
administrations to determine the
student’s final grade for that course
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—General Information
No substantial change to the TAKS program
at the elementary and middle school.

CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—General Information
 Requires all assessments (grades 3-12)
to be developed in a manner that allows a
measure of annual student improvement
 Requires a vertical scale in grades 3-8 for
mathematics and reading starting with the
2008-2009 school year
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—General Information
 Allows the agency to release assessment
questions every third year
 Prohibits schools from spending more than
10% of the instructional year administering
district-required tests
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—General Information
 Establishes a committee to review the
accountability system and make
recommendations to the legislature
 Requires the agency to conduct a survey
and prepare a report to determine the
ability of school districts to administer
assessment instruments by computer
CAMT June 2007
SB 1031—General Information
 Requires assessments instruments,
starting in 2007-2008, to be
administered at least two weeks
later than the date on which they
were administered in 2006-2007
CAMT June 2007
2007-2008 Student Assessment
