HARMONIC MITIGATION Installation of Mirus harmonic filters in TPS fields Prepared by Ahmed BOUJELBEN Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer Thyna Petroleum Services 7, Avenue Abderahmen EL GHAFIKI BP. 069 - 3069 Sfax Hached SFAX TUNISIA 1 PIPELINE AND FLOWLINE INTEGRITY Objectives: Reduce voltage and current harmonic distortion Reduce Energy losses Protect electrical equipment against the harmful effects of harmonics Avoid failure of equipment ( VFDs, motors, etc.) and especially on offshore fields (Generator, battery charge, …). Reduce maintenance cost Realize energy savings 2 . As a first step: TPS selected 4 sites Mirus was selected as suitable filter technology for all TPS locations TPS has purchased and installed 4 Lineator filters (2 filters onshore + 2 filters offshore) Acceptable performances was achieved despite of using filter at light load, Performance will be presented As second step: Mirus solution will be generalized for all TPS fields. 3 Waveforms Before filter installation After filter installation 4 Performance measurement (Load rate at 62%) Before Harmonic Mitigation After Harmonic Mitigation Reductions I rms (A) 442,3 (A) 351,2 (A) - 20,5 % Uthd 6,3 % 1,2 % - 81 % Ithd 72,2 % 10,3 % - 87% DPF 0,98 1,00 TPF 0,79 1,00 + 21 % KVA 317,4 252,2 - 20 % KVAR 196,0 24,4 - 88 % Transformer losses 11,4 kw 5,7 kw - 50 % 5 BEFORE Harmonic Mitigation: Waveforms and harmonics Spectrums Tension Courant 6 AFTER Harmonic Mitigation: Formes des ondes et spectres harmoniques Tension Courant 7 BEFORE MITIGATION Summary Compliance with IEEE std 519 - 1992 Measurement Voltage total Harmonic Distorsion (uthd) IEEE 519 LIMITS 6,3 % 5% Fail Maximum individual voltage harmonic 4,4 % (5) 3% Fail Current total Demand Distorsion (Itdd) 72,2 % 12,0 % Fail Max individual current harmonic < 11 61,2 % (5 ) 10 % Fail 11 to 16 7,5 % (13) 4,5 % Fail 17 to 22 3,4 % (17) 4,0 % Fail 23 to 34 2,0 % (23 ) 1,5 % Fail 0,7 % Fail > 35 1,0 % (35) 8 AFTER MITIGATION Summary Compliance with IEEE std 519 - 1992 Measurement IEEE 519 LIMITS 1,2 % 5% Pass Maximum individual voltage harmonic 0,8 % (5) 3% Pass Current total Demand Distorsion (Itdd) 10,3 12% Pass Max individual current harmonic < 11 8,4 (7) 10 % Pass 11 to 16 2,4(11) 4,5 % Pass 17 to 22 1,5(17) 4% Pass 23 to 34 0,7(23) 1,5 % Pass > 35 0,3 (35) 0,7% Pass Voltage total Harmonic Distorsion (uthd) 9
