Use Case - Manufacturing
Manufacturing workers using Spectralink device for Alerts, Updates and Voice Communication
At the bottling facility…
Machines are constantly
monitored for proper
functioning. Any downtime
on the line, even just a few
minutes, will cost the
manufacturer a tremendous
amount of money. A
physical indicator visually
shows the machine status.
A green light signals that all
is fine. It changes to red
when a problem exists. It’s
not always possible for
someone to be close
enough to see the colour of
the lights though, which is
why the signals are sent via
the network to an alarm
server. But the machine
must be fixed quickly!
…Mike the manager has a
Spectralink phone.
Luckily , Mike the manager
uses the ruggedized
Spectralink device to
manage machine alerts from
the server and communicate
with other mobile workers on
the floor.
Upon alert receipt, he uses
Lync directory and
presence combined with a
RTLS system, to call the
closest available technician.
Ted the Technician has also
seen the alert on his
Spectralink device and is on
his way already. As they
walk to the ailing machine,
Mike and Ted discuss the
situation – and the call is
seamlessly handled over
the Wi-Fi Network.
…and so does Ted the Technician
…and others too.
…later, during the night
Ted quickly fixes the
problem, and uses the
barcode scanner to scan
the machine’s barcode,
which sends the machine ID
and clear codes back to the
server. He updates the
system, with context
sensitive keys that make
navigation easier, and feels
confident that the
Spectralink device won’t
break if inadvertently
dropped!
Spectralink phones can be a
shared resource, utilised
as, and when, needed,
across shifts. The batteries
and hardware are built to
last, with over 10 hour talk
time from one charge, and
spare batteries can be
charged at the same time.
Great when BYOD isn't the
right option!
Now the line is running
smoothly, Sandy the
Security Guard uses one of
the pool of Wi-Fi phones
while on her rounds at night,
safe in the knowledge that
the panic button and built in
motion detector are linked
to the security systems and
central control room, AND
push to talk enables walkietalkie functionality.

Use Case - Retail
Shop floor worker using Spectralink device for Voice Communication
Bob the Baker…
…has a Spectralink phone.
…and so does Warehouse Wayne.
…and others too.
…later, during the night
Bob the Baker has run out
of flour. He urgently needs
to organise a delivery. He
uses his Spectralink Wi-Fi
phone, as a smartphone
isn't the right device for the
environment.
Bob uses the ruggedized
device to find who is
available to help using Lync
directory and presence,
and can also discuss while
he walks the other end of
the store to the warehouse –
with the call seamlessly
handled over the Wi-Fi
Network..
Wayne in the warehouse
also has a Spectralink
phone, and uses the
barcode scanner to scan
the code on a pallet, to
check stock. This searches
the system, with context
sensitive keys to make
navigation easier, and it
won’t break if inadvertently
dropped!
