Equality Act 2010
Defines the characteristics of nine protected groups:

Pregnancy and maternity
Equality Act 2010
Now includes protection for Direct, Indirect, Associated
and Third person discrimination
• Direct - eg less favourable treatment, harassment,
bullying
• Indirect - eg requiring employee to be 6ft tall (women),
cannot wear headwear (Sikh)
• Associated or ‘transferred discrimination’ - eg being a
carer or in a mixed race/multi-cultural
marriage/partnership
• Third person – eg cannot work in an environment
where direct discrimination is occurring
