– Research career, possibly employer required…
• Why not?
– Loss of work for experience, loss of workforce pay,
extra costs….
• How to decide?
– Personal decision, no universally right answer,
takes time to discern
– Don’t worry about it
Application Process

• Applying to ONLY one program, not a whole
university
– TAMU NUEN PhD. vs TAMU

– Rolling admissions (aka 1st come 1st served)
– Allows time for quality application
– Check specific program for absolute deadline

University and Departmental Requirements

• Outside fellowships
Funding

• Post graduation commitments
• Eligibility requirements (e.g. US citizenship)
• Research/practicum requirements while in school
– Greater flexibility in research topics, extra time, can pay
better
