Fascism and other causes of the war
THE ORIGIN….
Originally, the term "fascism"
(fascismo) was used by the
political movement that ruled
Italy from 1922 to 1943 under
the leadership of Benito
Mussolini.
Later, fascism became a
broader term that was used to
cover a whole class of
authoritarian political
ideologies.
FASCISM CHARACTERISTICS…..

RACIST

ULTRA-NATIONALISTIC- Good of the state is more important

MILITARISTIC- Paramilitary youth groups

IMPERIALISTIC – Want to invade and conquer other territories

SYMBOLISM & Rituals – Parades and speeches

DICTATORSHIP – One man rules party, the party rules the country

CAPITALIST – Govt. controls how private business is run.
FASCES….

The traditional Roman
fasces consisted of a
bundle of birch rods tied
together with a red
ribbon as a cylinder
around an axe. One
interpretation of the
symbolism suggests that
despite the fragility of
each independent single
rod, as a bundle they
exhibit strength.
ADOLF HITLER…. A FEW POINTS

Adolf Hitler was born in the small Austrian town of Braunau
near the German border.

Hitler's main interest at school was art. Hitler told his father
that instead of joining the civil service he was going to
become an artist.

He was shattered when the Vienna Academy of Art rejected
his application.

Rejected the idea of fighting for Austria, Hitler volunteered for
the German Army.

Hitler refused to stop during his march, the police fired into
the ground . Hitler's’ men returned the fire and 21 people
were killed.

He was found guilty he only received the minimum sentence
of five years

Hitler spent his time in prison writing his autobiography Mien
Kampf.
DICTATORS….
Dictatorship refers to an autocratic
form of absolute rule by leadership
unrestricted by law, constitutions, or
other social and political factors
within the state.
.
Führer is a proper noun meaning
"leader" in the German language.
Führer was the title granted by Hitler to
himself by the Enabling Act in 1934
which gave him supreme power in the
German Reichstag (Parliament).
THE CAUSES OF WW2….

1. World depression Led to violent extremist political
parties in Germany, Italy & Spain
2. A Fascist – Hitler gains support from Germans by:
a) Rejecting Treaty of Versailles
b) Rebuilding the German army, air force and navy
c) Annexing Austria, and Czechoslovakia
d) Signs non-aggression pact with the Soviets… then
invades Poland on Sept.1 1939

CAUSES OF WW2….

3. Democracies policy of Appeasement -They wanted to avoid war at all costs ---Chamberland followed this policy by giving
Austria and Czech. to Hitler.

4. Germany Invades Poland
- Hitler invades Poland
- Britain declares war on Germany for
invading Poland on Sept. 3 1939
