OBJECTIVES



To understand how the United States Government
operates and our civic rights and responsibilities.
To continue to develop study and research skills by
using maps, interpreting graphs and charts and
promote critical thinking skills.
To give students a healthy forum in which they can
openly debate/discuss issues they feel are
pertinent to our study of government and history.

Goals
The goal of the ELA curriculum is to
prepare students to be effective readers
and writers who communicate well and think
analytically.
We will use both the GLE’S and
Common Core Standards to meet our goals.
We will focus on writing, literature study,
vocabulary building, grammar and oral
communications.
Expectations
Assignments are expected on time.
 Preparation is a key to success.
 Students will work toward increased
independence.


Supplies Needed







Three- 1 subject notebooks
Two composition notebooks
One 2 pocket folder
Pens [blue or black ink only]
Pencils
One three ring binder[ at least 3 inches]
Other supplies will be needed according to
the project
Content




Meet the ELA standards by keeping a journal,
completing all Common Tasks (2 a year) and a
variety of written assignments;
Improve grammar and expand vocabulary
base;
First half of year focuses on writing, while
second half reading is integrated into the
curriculum and becomes vehicle for literary
analysis.
Maintain a binder and follow teacher’s lead in
creating a high school English resource

understanding of algebra while
simultaneously acquiring the
necessary skills to solve
problems in algebra
 engage in mathematical inquiry
and benefit from direct
teaching strategies in their

Island GLEs for algebra
 demonstrate their growth
through class participation,
computing, problems of the day,
homework, tests, quizzes, and
projects.
