This 2010 vessel is a U.S. Navy sponsored, Lockheed design, very high-tech, state-of-the art steel welded vessel. This design is a 50% scale model of a proposed USN high-tech amphibious landing craft. It has a combination of operating features including, high speed catamaran ferry, shallow draft and beach-able ferry/cargo transport, SWATH (small water-plane area twin hull) ship, and has ice operations certification. ABS certification is +A1, (E) HSC, Ro-Ro Passenger Craft. It is certified to operate in up to sea-state 3 (Pierson-Moskowitz scale), Note: This particular sea-state rating is rather conservative (this scale translates to 4’ seas). During sea-trials, it was reported by Captain Stormont that the vessel performed admirably in 8-10’ seas with 35 knots of wind.

A remarkable opportunity to purchase a steel RoPax Fast Ferry with easy option for General Cargo applications is a variable draft, twin hull, ice breaking SWATH, Ro-Ro Passenger vessel. It can carry up to 129 passengers and 7 crew. In addition the vessel can carry 20 automobiles or equal payload of assorted heavy vehicles (freight capacity of 35 tons). The ship’s variable draft is achieved by vertical displacement of the center module all welded aluminum barge or car deck using a heavy duty hydraulic lift system. There is a forward and aft hydraulic ramp system on the barge/car deck and the vessel is capable of operating at a suitable dockside ferry facility.
When the center barge is lowered, the vessel draft is approximately 4.5 feet. This allows it to approach shore and transfer vehicles and passengers directly to a suitable beach or boat ramp (only from the bow ramp).
The ice breaking operation requires that the barge be up. This permits the lower bow portion of each hull to pre-stress and fracture the ice. Also, ice displacement “knives” on the transom of each hull divert ice away from the hull when backing down into pre-broken ice.

th 2012 The hull and center barge lift structures are constructed of multiple thicknesses and grades of steel. Both hulls also consist of multiple thicknesses and grades of steel. Random ultra-sound measurements have been taken and found very adequate scantling thicknesses in critical areas (bow bottom, hull bottoms, side hulls) consisting of .247” (upper sides), .310 (lower sides), and .438 (bottoms). Literally, there is a variety of computer designed thicknesses to permit operations in the most severe ice and weather conditions.
The barge (car deck) is all marine grade aluminum - welded. Barge length is 161’ and beam is 33’. The barge has 12 water-tight compartments.
The vessel complies with the following applicable international and United States standards and laws including but not limited to: 1. USCG Code of Federal Regulations.

GENERAL LAYOUT: Each hull is virtually identical, with the main deck consisting of a large passenger lounge, each with seating capacity for 65 passengers. Passenger seats are Turnbull LLC with Jim Buoy life vest capability. Lounge deck has Poly-spec finish. Forward of the passenger lounges on each hull is the generator room and electrical distribution panels. The shore power connection panels are forward of the generator rooms. Aft of the passenger lounges are the engine fidley spaces and vertical leaders into engine rooms. Exterior stair wells from each hull lead up to the bridge deck. Amidships on the bridge deck is the large pilot house with 360 visibility. Windows are Diamond Sea Glaze with Sea Clear glass. There are two pilot stations in the pilot house with state-of-the-art propulsion and steering controls; thruster controls; navigation equipment computer displays; engine and machinery equipment computer displays; Global Marine satellite, HF, and VHF communications; closed circuit TV displays; and cushioned seating for crew/operators. The engine spaces are unmanned with all equipment and systems controlled from the pilot house. The conning officer and the engineer run the ship from the pilot house. There are no galley or berthing facilities.
The vessel has 48 individual watertight compartments including ballast and fuel tanks. Each hull has a second deck below the main deck. Therefore, there are 12 watertight compartments in the upper portion of each hull, and 12 in the lower portion of each hull. Watertight compartments in each hull are monitored and alarmed per International and USCG requirements.
Each hull has the following compartments from fore to aft:
1. Collision bulkheads, void spaces, and ballast tanks.
2. More ballast tanks, auxiliary machinery spaces, transformer and electric panels, and USN Carde-rock sensors.
3. Auxiliary machinery spaces, air compressor and hydraulics 4. Amid-ship thruster rooms.
5. Fuel tanks, pump room, shaft alley.
6. Forward main propulsion engine room.
7. Aft main propulsion engine room.
8. Ballast and fuel tanks.
9. Water jet room and shaft alley.
Between the two hulls is the aluminum barge/car deck that is raised and lowered using both 350 KW generators. In an emergency, the barge can be lowered with one of the generators. Electrical and hydraulic power can be shifted from each hull. All waste materials: waste oil, bilge water, and sewage is transferred to shore. The marine sanitation device in each hull consist of a 615 gallon untreated holding tank .
The vessel is propelled by four de-rated (from 2700HP to 2435HP) MTU 12V-4000 12 cylinder marine turbo diesel engines, connected to four NICO reduction gears, connected to four CENTA carbon fiber shafts, and attached to four Wartsila water jets.

Average cruise speed is 16 knots. Maximum speed with barge down (landing craft mode) is five knots, shallow draft. Fuel range at 16 knots is 800 miles. For shallow draft operation the NAMJ amid-ship thrusters are powered by the forward MTU main engine (each hull) and are 360 degree omni-directional.
