CNH |KEY CLUB Strengthening Kiwanis Bonds Presented by: CNH| Updated by: Member Relations Committee 2013-2014 California-Nevada-Hawaii District | Key Club International August 2013 Kiwanis International • Organization of service clubs headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana • Made up of approximately 8,600 clubs in 96 countries and over 586,000 adult members • Global organization of members dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time • Sponsors the smaller branches of the Kiwanis Family CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International • Typical service projects include: • Adopt/maintain a trail, park, road etc. • Collect/serve food for homeless shelters/soup kitchens • Service Partners: • • • • Boys and Girls Clubs of America UNICEF March of Dimes Children’s Miracle Network CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International Why Should we be Involved with Other Kiwanis Families? • The Kiwanis family spans through several generations and levels of education • Some of the most rewarding times can come from spending time together and strengthening family bonds, like a real family • Opportunities for networking and making new friendships are innumerable CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International • Club strength • Kiwanis understands how to start and run a club • Kiwanians have job experience to share, stories to tell, and abilities to stand as a chaperone • Financial Aid • If capable, Kiwanis can help you pay for convention costs (DCON, ICON) CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International • Assistance with transportation • Kiwanis may be more willing to offer rides to and from projects if they know the Key Clubbers • Network beyond college • Kiwanians serve as mentors with their various backgrounds • Free food! • Kiwanis meetings give you a chance to develop social skills and eat great food! • Many clubs hold their meetings during breakfast, lunch, or dinner CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International Know your Sponsoring Kiwanis Club • Knowing who your sponsoring Kiwanis Club is an important factor to running a successful club • Find out by: • • Going to the Kiwanis website and using the Club Locator Asking your Lt. Governor CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International How to get Involved: Meetings • Attend your sponsoring Kiwanis Club’s meeting o Ask your club president or respective Lieutenant Governor about when and where • Get to know your Kiwanis Advisor o Get their contact information o Email to update them • Invite Kiwanis to Key Club meetings CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International • Attend a Kiwanis DCM o Ask Your Lt. Governor: • Which Kiwanis division you belong to • When and where your Kiwanis DCMs are held o Get to know your Kiwanis Lt. Governor • Talk to your Lt. Governor about inviting Kiwanis to Key Club DCMs o Ask if they would like to share, give presentations, chaperone etc. CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International How to get Involved: Events • Officer Training Conference o Ask your Kiwanis Club if they’d be interested in helping out with OTC o Ask them if they would like to present or even if they can give ride some of the attendees o Have them share • Their experiences as a leaders • Effectives ways of leadership that have helped them CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International • Service opportunities • • Serving alongside Kiwanis during projects gives you the chance to get to know them It also leads to additional projects in the future! • Finding chaperones for future events • • • Finding chaperones can be difficult, but not when you’re asking Kiwanis! Kiwanians love to spend time with their Key Clubbers Our safety is their main concern CNH| Training Topic: The Kiwanis Family CNH Key Club District | Key Club International How to get Involved: Other Kiwanis Family Members • Sponsor a K-Kids or Builders Club at a local elementary/middle school o Visit them o Assist with meetings and service projects • Find out who your Circle K Lt.
