Local people hold the key for better and healthier forest management Thematic Areas: Guiding - Expanding Community principles: Forestry - Strong & Secure - People, Forest & Climate rights Change - Good - Transforming forestgovernance related Conflict - Fair benefits - Securing local livelihoods Introduction to RECOFTC Video About the project • Title: Training & capacity building of forest sector grassroots stakeholders for REDD in Asia-Pacific Region Project • Donor: NORAD • Implementing Agency: RECOFTC • Duration: August 2010 – July 2013 • Participating countries: Indonesia, Lao PDR, Nepal and Vietnam Project Goal and Purpose Project Goal: Grassroots forest sector stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region actively contribute to the success of REDD plus mechanism and take full advantage of the resultant benefits for local socioeconomic development. Project Purpose: Key gaps in knowledge among grassroots forest stakeholders are addressed. Project Outputs 1. A training and capacity building materials for REDD+ developed; 2. Grassroots forest stakeholders’ awareness for REDD+ raised through delivery of capacity building programs; 3. Feedback received on the capacity building training delivery for refinement of capacity building programs; 4. Capacity building materials contributed to national REDD readiness programs and strategies. Project Approach • Conduct a capacity building need assessment (CBNA) in each project country. • Create specialized training materials adapted to local contexts. • Work with local partners to raise awareness of REDD+ and climate change. • Conduct surveys before and after trainings to monitor & evaluate participants’ progress. • Share relevant materials and lessons learnt.
