What is Physical Activity
Any bodily movement produced by the skeletal
muscles that is above daily functioning that results in
greater energy expenditure (burn calories)
What is Exercise
A formal type of physical activity which is planned
and prescriptive in nature and based on the FITT
Principle

frequency, intensity, time and type
What is Active Living
 a way of life in which physical activity is valued and
integrated into daily life
 an active living concept allows each person to choose
the activities they enjoy
What is Physical Fitness
 The bodies ability to adapt to the demands of
physical effort, that is to perform vigorous levels of
activity without becoming fatigued
Components of Physical Fitness
 Health Related: related to good health and reduced
risk of hypokinetic disease (caused by lack of
exercise)

Ex. Obesity, Diabetes
 Skill Related: related to optimal sport or work
performance vs health

Cardiovascular fitness:
the ability of your cardiovascular and
respiratory systems to provide fuel
and O2 to the muscles during
sustained activity
Body composition
