How are AIG classes different?
All classes follow the NC Common Core
Curriculum, but AIG classes concentrate on
increased rigor and high level thinking skills.
Your student’s teachers have curricular
information available for areas in which your
student is identified.
Transfer Students
“Any student who transfers with appropriate
documentation of participation in a program for
academically or gifted services will continue in
the appropriate AIG setting.
Change: Testing will no longer be required for
these students to continue receiving ABSS AIG
services.
Resource and Acceleration
When a student is initially tested for
AIG placement, he/she may qualify for
“resource” or “accelerated” services in
reading and/or math.
Resource AIG
Resource AIG students receive the
“resources” provided by our AIG staff within
a class composed of identified and highachieving students.
Accelerated AIG
Some of our AIG students exhibit a deeper
need for differentiation. These accelerated
students are served in the AIG resource
classroom and are invited to participate in
weekly enrichment classes totaling about ninety
minutes.
.
Accelerated AIG
In addition to the DEP used for all AIG students,
accelerated students also need an Individualized
Differentiated Education Plan (IDEP).
If your student is accelerated, your child’s teacher
will ask you make an appointment to develop this
plan.
All students who qualify for AIG services
will have a
Differentiated Education Plan (DEP).
For tonight…
If your student is a sixth grader,
please sign the DEP.
If your student is an accelerated sixth grader,
please sign the DEP and make an appointment
to develop an IDEP with your child’s AIG
teacher(s).
Your student’s teachers have curricular
information available for you to take home.
For Later…

There is no AIG reevaluation in middle or high
school. Students remain identified unless parents
withdraw them.

Everyone should receive an updated copy of the
DEP with your child’s last report card.

Please email me if you would like to be on my AIG
parent mailing list. This is a fresh list, so even if you
have been on my list in the past, please email me.
